Question: Have you ever been told that you have an excessive number of books? If so, what was your reaction?

My response: No, because I don't have an excessive number of books. I have accumulated more books over the past year than I ever have before, but it's still a small number. Most of the books I read are from the library.

Today's excerpts are from the hardcover format of Checked Out for Murder (Haunted Library Mystery 4), by Allison Brook. I am currently reading this book.

Here is the first sentence:

"More coffee?" I asked Dylan as I got up from the table to pour us both a refill,

And here's an excerpt from page 56:

A sudden noise startled me and brought all nearby conversation to a halt.

The entire first page doesn't have much to do with the main conflict, but I think this opening line is a testament to how down-to-earth cozy mysteries and their characters can be. You just want to hang out with them, like they're your friends. Then on page 56 we start to see one of the main conflicts in the book beginning to take shape.

The girls celebrated their first birthday on May 1st. I didn't think I'd be able to get them to pose together for a picture, but this was the scene I woke up to that day.
