Four Leaf Felony (Holiday Cozy Mystery 1), by Tonya Kappes

πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„

I have had Four Leaf Felony (Holiday Cozy Mystery 1), by Tonya Kappes, in my Kindle library since last year when I was able to grab it for free. Being the mostly seasonal reader that I am, I was saving it to read this March. I'm pleased to say, it was worth the wait!

Violet Rhinehammer is a news reporter from Normal, Kentucky. She recently received a call to interview for a job as a reporter for a major national network out west. She hops on a plane bound for California, but while en route, she discovers a dead body aboard the aircraft. The pilot makes an emergency landing in Holiday Junction where Violet finds herself stranded with all of the other passengers and crew until the murder is solved. Using her skills as a journalist, Violet spends her time investigating what has become a murder mystery. While doing so, she gets to know the village of Holiday Junction and all of the people who live there. There may even be romance on the horizon for Violet.

The Holiday Cozy Mystery series is a spinoff from the Campers and Criminals Mystery series, by Tonya Kappes. I have not read the previous series, but I decided to dive into this one anyway. I'm so glad I did. I did not feel lost at all. The author does a great job introducing new readers to the characters. I will say that after reading this book, I definitely want to go back to the beginning in the previous series.

Each book in this spinoff series is set during a different holiday. Four Leaf Felony fully embraces St. Patrick's Day.  I loved reading about all the decorations and festivities that Violet suddenly finds herself a part of. It made me want to be a part of it, too.

They mystery is strong. It is filled with twists and turns, which kept me guessing until the very end. The big reveal was rather emotional and very different than any other cozy mystery I've read. I was surprised by who the culprit was, but it all made sense.

There is quite a bit of humor in this book, too. I found myself laughing out loud several times. It wasn't too over the top, though. There was just the right amount of humor that was well-balanced in a solid story.

If you are looking for a light-hearted cozy mystery centered around holidays, I highly recommend the Holiday Cozy Mystery series beginning with Four Leaf Felony. It is clean, with no foul language, and will have you wanting to celebrate with the residents of Holiday Junction any time of the year. I will definitely be continuing the series and eventually going back to Campers and Criminals, which started it all.
