The Friday Six 13

Happy Friday!

Today I'm participating in six blog hops.  You can click on the host links below to find the blogs of others who are participating in each blog hop. If you're a blogger, feel free to join through the host links.

Question: With the changing of seasons from summer to fall in September, do you have a favorite book that reflects the essence of this transitional period or one that you enjoy reading when the temperature cools down?

My response: I rarely re-read books, but mostly I'm a seasonal reader unless I'm reading an ARC or a book club selection.  I'm planning to read plenty of fall-themed cozy mysteries and maybe some fall-themed romance or romcoms as well this fall.

Today's excerpts are from the e-ARC format of Apparitions, Aerobics, and Arson (Bewitcher's Beach Mystery 3), by Emily Fluke.

Here is the beginning:
I kicked off my neon blue sneakers and stretched the thick socks over my ankles, settling in to watch the robber get handcuffed.

And here is an excerpt from page 56:
A dark figure in the lobby caught the corner of my eye, and goosebumps rippled down the back of my neck. Who was watching me? I twisted in between sets of "branch breaking" to see Crow arrive with a new black shirt. identical to the one from the day before but without the slashes from my claws.

If you enjoy paranormal cozy mysteries with great world-building and 90's nostalgia, you'll enjoy this series. This book releases next Tuesday, October 1st, so I'm planning to have my review published sometime in the next week.

This was the scene while waiting to see the vet back in July. Bell was the little explorer standing on her hind legs, and Fiona is that lump of  gray fur on the floor to the right of Bell. Fiona was hiding (or she thought she was), but she was by far, the calmer of the two when it was time to be examined (even though Fiona's heart was racing and Bell's was normal).

Mum's the word! It's beginning to look and feel a lot like fall and that makes me so happy!

  1. I don't consider myself a seasonal reader. People talk about Beach Reads in summer, and horror fiction in October. I just feel lucky to have good books to read whenever I can. Thanks for visiting Friday56.

  2. There is always one braver than the other. Bell's heart was probably normal because even though she was hiding, she was relaxed.

  3. Happy Saturday!
I'm currently reading Virginia Company Bride by Gabrielle Meyer. It's book one in her American Brides novella collection. So far, so good!

It seemed a shame to Anne Burras that her mistress had endured months of the ocean travel just to die before reaching Virginia.
I hope you have a blessed weekend full of rest and good reading! πŸ™‚❤️πŸ“š

  4. Fall themed cozy mysteries and rom coms sound like the perfect fit for this time of year! I enjoy those too. Like you, I'm not much of a re-reader except maybe sometimes. Emily Fluke's books have the best titles! Your teasers from Apparitions, Aerobics, and Arson have sure tempted me! It sounds like a fun read.

I feel for your kitties having to visit the vet. Never fun for them--but necessary, I know. Gracie is fairly good about vet visits. She doesn't like them, but she cooperates when she isn't hiding. Nina is a beast though. She is all claws, hisses, and teeth. I think the vet and their staff are a little afraid of her. We were given medicine to sedate her for the next time she has to go in. I hate how traumatic it is for her. :-(

I hope you are having a great weekend and enjoy the week ahead!

    1. Bell will need to be sedated next time, too. Hopefully she will only have to go once a year. Apparitions, Aerobics, and Arson was good! I'll be posting my review this evening. :)

    1. Stormi, sometimes I'm very good about posting five days a week and other times I go weeks without posting. It all depends on what's going on in other aspects of my life. :)

  7. You always choose good books to share.

The kitties certainly do show their stress at being at the vet's office differently.

Autumn flowers are most welcome after this hot summer.

Thank you for linking up with Feline Friday, and forgive my being so long in reading, it's been a difficult couple of weeks.
