Sunday Post 101

Hi everyone!

Through Monday, I am linking with the following:

On the above blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in those blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

I wasn't sure I'd have time to compose a Sunday Post this weekend, but here I am! I have a couple hours to spare before heading back out later this evening.

Although I didn't post anything on my blog, I had a good week. I worked on a 1000 piece puzzle that's been sitting on the dining room table since last summer. I had completed the frame, then last August happened (I'll just leave it at that), and I stopped working on it. I worked on it for two hours one day this past week and didn't get very far locking pieces into place, but I did a lot of sorting. So that should help speed things up when I pick back up again. And I'm not going to wait until next year to do it.

Earlier today, I went to the farmer's market. This is actually a preview of what's to come. It doesn't really start until May, then it will be weekly. The one I went to today was the only one they're having this month. It was the first time I went to the farmer's market since 2023. I'm determined to start going consistently again. I just have to make sure I get to bed early enough on Fridays so I can get there early enough on Saturdays before most of the good stuff is gone. It runs from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and often by 10 a.m. a lot of my favorite produce is gone. However, today I got there at 11:00 and there was still a lot of good stuff to be found. It helps that it's a cool, cloudy day. I think that kept some people at home. I personally prefer that kind of weather, especially if I'm going to be outside for a while.

And I'm not gonna lie. I came home with more than just produce. I came home with a gnome, whom I've temporarily named April. I love gnomes, but I only had one of my own. The one I bought today was handmade by a local artisan. It has bunny ears, which is relevant for spring, but they can easily come off. So the gnome works for any time of the year. I was happy to support a local artisan while finding something I really, really like.

It seems I did a few things this past week that I hadn't done in a while. On Friday, I started a subscription to Hulu + Live TV and ESPN+ so I can watch the end of the hockey season and the upcoming NHL playoffs. So I watched a Caps game on Friday for the first time this season and what a game it was!!! Ovechkin tied Wayne Gretzky for the most goals and Gretzky was there to witness it. Not only that, this historic goal was the game-winning goal...in a game they had been trailing! Ovi has one more goal to go before breaking Gretzky's record. I'm hoping it happens on my birthday next Saturday. How amazing that would be to have my birthday go down in Caps history. :D They're playing a few games before then, though, so it could happen sooner.

IN THE BOOKS
RECENTLY FINISHED
πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„
I finished reading The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax (Mrs. Pollifax Mystery 1), by Dorothy Gilman and I loved it! I've decided that I'm going to listen to the audiobook before I post my review, but in the meantime, you can read some excerpts on here.

IN PROGRESS
In progress, but again this week I made no progress with The Puzzler: One Man's Quest to Solve the Most Baffling Puzzles Ever, from Crosswords to Jigsaw to the Meaning of Life, by A. J. Jacobs. I really need to set aside time to read the next chapter on jigsaw puzzles. Does it count that I made progress on a jigsaw puzzle?
UP NEXT
This coming week I'll listen The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax (Mrs. Pollifax Mystery 1), by Dorothy Gilman. I need to cut down on podcasts I've been listening to because this is just one of three audiobooks I want to listen to this month.
The next book I'm going to read is South Beach Scandal (Claire O'Keefe Cozy Mystery 3), by Cindy Quayle. I have enjoyed this series from the beginning, especially the second installment, so I'm looking forward to reading this third one.
ON THE SCREEN
  • The Food That Built America - I'm almost done with season 2. I've noticed a couple minor flaws with the series (like the characters don't age at all, even after 20 years), but it's still a great series. Did you know that before there were chicken nuggets, someone thought about selling onion nuggets at McDonalds? Apparently he made them and they were disgusting, so it never happened. Would you eat an onion nugget?
  • American Idol - The auditions are done and we're moving on to Hollywood Week. I'm interested in seeing how this works compared to how it used to be.
  • Murder, She Wrote - I watched S4E2 and I have to say it's one of my least favorite episodes. It's called When Thieves Fall. Although this one is set in Cabot Cove, it felt darker than usual. I need my cozy vibes.
  • Royal Matchmaker - This Hallmark movie is from 2018. It's got star power with Joy Lenz and Will Kemp. I watched it before and enjoyed it, but I enjoyed it even more the second time around. It's definitely one of the best royal movies. If it weren't for the way it ended, it would have been a five star movie.
  • Hearts Around the Table: Shari's Second Act - This was a Hallmark Spring Into Love premiere. It is the second one in a series of four. I liked this one better than the first one. I thought the main storyline was more interesting. Also, it sort of put Maryland on the Hallmark map. It was filmed in Canada, but is set in Maryland and Washington, D.C.
  • Gourmet Detective Mystery series - I finished watching all five movies in this series. This is a strong series overall and it's too bad it ended. Both leads have left Hallmark, and I believe acting in general. I'm not 100% sure of the latter, though. I will have to check out the book series sometime.

Have a great week!

  1. I've lost the Farmer's Market habit, too. It's a good time of year to get geared up for that.

  4. We used to have a farmer's market here, but there wasn't really a lot of produce and even that dwindled down. I would love to buy from local people. In fact, that's my recent obsession---to buy whatever I can locally, from real people rather than billionaires.

    1. Deb, I wonder if there are farms in your area that you can buy directly from. There are a couple of farms in my area that don't participate in the farmers market, but they sell their locally and organically grown produce. :)

  6. I enjoy farmer’s markets. There isn’t one in my little town but there are some about an hour from us and I need to visit more.
Gnomes scare me. But I’m glad you like them. *wink* I’m sure April is darling.
That is awesome about being able to watch hockey and I didn’t know about the Gretsky tie so that is cool!

I follow Cindy on Instagram! She encourages me in my writing with my cozy mystery series and I try to do the same for her. That’s so cool you are reading her book. I need to read the next two. I’ve only read the first.

I watched a Murder She Wrote episode recently that was not only dark but horribly written. I need to see if it was the same one. I haven't watched another one since. Just taking a little break.
    Have a great reading week!

    1. Lisa, the farmers market I go to is just a minute's drive down the road. I'm not sure I'd go if I had to travel far. It is good to support the locals, though. Ovechkin broke Gretzky's record today. Woohoo!!! I follow Cindy on Instagram as well. Wonderful that you support each other! I enjoy most Murder, She Wrote episodes (at least so far), but, yeah, this one was too dark for me. :)

    1. Cindy, I hope you get to see it. It's on ABC on Sundays and streams on Hulu the next day (even with just the most basic plan). :)

  8. I've never been to a farmer's market and they have a few around here. I should really check them out. Your books sound really good. I hope you enjoy them. Have a great week!

  9. What? No photo of your new gnome? Tomorrow we go hunting a few of Trolls of the Pacific NW created by Thomas Dambo. We're going on this hunt with our grandsons.

  10. I like farmer's markets but have gone consistently since I moved here in 2017. I don't do a lot of cooking or grocery shopping these days. I did enjoy the Mrs. Pollifiax books, but I haven't heard the audiobooks. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  11. I've got a 1000 piece jigsaw sitting there from about a year ago. I need to make some progress. I hate the sorting aspect! Enjoy your mystery reading.
