Hi everyone!
Through Monday, I am linking with the following:
On the above blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in those blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.
I thought I was going to post last week on my birthday, but it was not to be. It was a quiet, but good day. I ate grilled cheese (it was also National Grilled Cheese Day) and watched movies. One was a birthday-themed Hallmark movie called A Wish Come True and the other was Paddington 2 (which also has a birthday theme). I had seen both of them before and really liked them, so I decided to rewatch them.
The regular season is over for NHL hockey and my Washington Capitals will play Game 1 in the playoffs against Montreal on Monday. The Caps had a great regular season, but that rarely is an indication of how they will do in the playoffs. We will see. I'll watch as many games as I can, but it gets exhausting after a while (in a good way). Hopefully they don't lose four straight in the first round like what happened last year.
I am planning to post one book review this upcoming week on Wednesday and a puzzle on Saturday. Other than that it may be another week or two before I post again. So much fun is on the horizon and I'll tell you all about it when I return.
IN THE BOOKS
RECENTLY FINISHED
πππππ
I listened to The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax (Mrs. Pollifax Mystery 1), written by Dorothy Gilman and narrated by Barbara Rosenblat. Audiobooks can be hit or miss for me, but this one was definitely a hit. You can read my full review of the book here and you can read some excerpts here.

IN PROGRESS
In progress, but again this week I made no progress with The Puzzler: One Man's Quest to Solve the Most Baffling Puzzles Ever, from Crosswords to Jigsaw to the Meaning of Life, by A. J. Jacobs. I can't even say I made progress on my jigsaw puzzle this week. Where does the time go? As unbelievable as it may sound, I really do want to finish this book. It's just that other books are taking precedence right now.
I am almost finished reading South Beach Scandal (Claire O'Keefe Cozy Mystery 3), by Cindy Quayle. This is the review I'm planning to publish on Wednesday if I finish it before then, which I most likely will. Stay tuned! In the meantime, you can read some excerpts here.
I started listening to By Book or by Crook (Lighthouse Library Mystery 1), written by Eva Gates and narrated by Elise Arsenault. This is the April pick for The Cozy Mystery Book Club. It's taken me some time to get into a groove with this book, but I'm starting to settle into it.
UP NEXT
I grabbed an ARC of #Throwback for Murder (Trending Topic Mystery 4), by Sarah E. Burr, so this will be my next read. I love everything Sarah E. Burr has written, so I'm certain I will enjoy this one too.
ON THE SCREEN
- The Food That Built America - I finished season 2, but I'm taking a break from the series before moving on to the next season.
- American Idol - I think I'm behind again on Idol, but I did watch all the Hollywood weeks. So I know who the top 24 contestants are. Some of my favorites already went home, but some are still there. So I'll keep watching. At some point, I'm going to have to keep up with it each week so I don't read or hear any spoilers.
- Mean Girls - I had been wanting to watch this movie for a long time and I finally did since it's streaming on tubi. Ummm...some of the language has not stood the test of time (and I'm not referring to swearing), but other than that I enjoyed it. It was fun seeing today's Hallmark stars when they were younger. It certainly is a star-studded cast. It's a good plot and the editing is great too.
- A Wish Come True - This is one of the movies I watched on my birthday. It isn't perfect, but it's fun. It's a Hallmark movie that premiered in 2015. This was my second time watching it.
- Paddington 2 - This is a perfect movie, in my humble opinion. I love everything about it. That's why I chose to watch it a second time on my birthday.

I wish you many happy returns of your birthday and a good week ahead!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mimi! :)
DeleteI understand how reading on a book can stall out in favor of other, more compelling titles. I hope you get time to get back to The Puzzler.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! Glad you had a lovely day.
Thank you, Deb! :)
DeleteHappy Birthday! I have a few of those books on my TBR. It's so hard to read everything...so many good books. I started the Eva Gates series a few years ago but haven't been back to it. I will get there, but there are so many cozy mysteries I want to read. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Yvonne! Yes, so many good books, so little time! My other issue is that I also have so many hobbies, besides reading! A good problems to have...I guess. :)
DeleteHappy belated birthday, glad you enjoyed it! Looking forward to hearing what is on the horizon for you. I still haven't gotten around to watching American Idol, I keep forgetting about it. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cindy! I forgot about it too. I guess that means I'm not that interested. Except that I am. :-)
DeleteBelated birthday wishes to you!
ReplyDeleteI like the way that you celebrated!!
Hope you have a great week.
Thank you, Marg! You too! :)
DeleteHappy Belated Birthday! It sounds as though you had a wonderful day and last week! Grilled cheese is a favorite of mine so that sounds like a perfect Birthday meal :-) Hope your week ahead is great!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Melissa! You too! :-)
DeleteHappy birthday! You have a nice assortment of books here. I recently finished the ARC of a Lighthouse Library Mystery. I think it was the 12th in the series. I've only read a couple of them before. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kathy! :)
DeleteLovely way to celebrate your birthday. A good audiobook really makes a book. I hate it when I hit a not so good narrator.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Kathryn. I think some books are better read than listened to. :)
DeleteYay for attending Malice Domestic again! Reader events are so fun (and draining, LOL!). Sounds like you had a blast.
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly right, Cindy! :-)
