Question: Have you ever looked at the young adult book section in a modern bookstore and felt out of touch or old?
My response: I have looked at the young adult book section when looking for gifts for other people. I don't feel out of touch or old when I do this. I think it's fun to look at those books, although I don't buy them for myself.
Today's excerpts are from page 56 in the physical ARC of #Throwback for Murder (Trending Topic Mystery 4), by Sarah E. Burr. I was lucky enough to get a signed copy of this ARC at Malice Domestic a couple of weeks ago.
SOS, Cokes. Can you come to my booth? I need backup.
Charlotte Whittaker’s text popped up just as I snapped a photo of Chief Lloyd McInnis and the rest of the Central Shores Police Department taking the outdoor stage we’d cobbled together in front of their brand-new station.
And here is an excerpt from page 56:
Jasper continued, "I know our previous cases have been like glamorous scenes out of The Devil Wears Prada - with me being Meryl Streep, obviously, but Charlotte's in serious jeopardy, guys. More so than anything we've ever dealt with before."
I love that this book opens at a festive event and right away we have something serious happening, noted by the "SOS". Jasper is my favorite character throughout this series. He's one of Coco's (the main amateur sleuth) best friends, as is Charlotte. Jasper has a larger-than-life personality. He just has to speak and I smile or laugh out loud. He's also a giant teddy bear who cares deeply about his friends.
This book releases on June 3rd. I'm planning to have my review posted next week, hopefully on Thursday.
Okay, let me just say, that, yes, I'm still using my winter pillows. I guess I'm in denial that summer is around the corner. I had set up my spot on the couch where I usually sit to eat breakfast. After I put everything there, I went to the kitchen for about ten minutes to get my food. When I came back, Bell had taken over everything. I didn't even know she was in the room at first. She's never done this before, but I guess I can see why she did. She did look ultra comfortable. She stayed like that until the phone rang a few minutes later. She's sensitive to noises, so she bolted when the phone rang, at which time I could get my Snuggie and pillows back.
It's those tiny flowers on the ground that are my favorites. Here are some I've seen over the past week.
What beautiful blooms. Isn't Spring the best??

Spring definitely does have its perks! :)
DeleteI used to be a high school librarian. Whenever I went into a bookstore I would always wander over to the YA section to see what was new and what looked good. I didn't feel old at the time, just interested. Now, not so much. I go to the YA section and hardly recognize the authors, the series, the favorites. It makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteAnne, I can understand why you feel that way.
DeleteIf it is comfortable for you, it will be extra comfy for Bell!
ReplyDeleteThat is true! :)
DeleteBell is so adorable. She looks very comfy.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Yvonne! :)
DeleteThe book sounds like fun, what a great opening.
ReplyDeleteBell certainly did look happy to be there and as for what pillows you have, keep out what you like, it's your place and your choice, right?
The small flowers snuggled in the lawn are pretty, it's sad we have to mow over them.
Thank you for linking up with Feline Friday!
I enjoyed the book, Mimi! Bell was quite content being there! :)
DeleteEvery now and then when I'm reading a YA book, I'll feel quite old. Not so much just by looking at the covers though...
ReplyDeleteI hear you, Lauren. :)
