Hi everyone!
Through Monday, I am linking with the following:
So, it appears winter is not done yet and that makes me so happy! It is still February, after all. We are expecting snow Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. It will likely start as rain early on Sunday, then turn to all snow later. I'm on the edge of the 5-8 inch range, so I think my area will probably get about five inches. This storm will not be accompanied by a thick layer of ice, nor frigid temps afterward, so the cleanup will be much faster than the January storm. That last storm we had that ended with a thick layer of ice is still sticking around in spots one month later!
On Friday, I got together with a friend to practice puzzling. The next speed puzzling competition that we're participating in is next Saturday. We'll have three hours to complete a 500-piece puzzle. Last September, we were given two hours to finish a 300-piece puzzle and we were done in less than an hour. Besides simply having fun, our main goal is to not finish last. I believe we can accomplish that!
IN THE BOOKS
RECENTLY FINISHED

I finished The Tell-Fang Heart (Vampire Pet Boutique Mystery 2), by Elle Wren Burke. This is the first full-length cozy mystery I've read that does not contain a murder and I loved it! There was a fun tie-in to Valentine's Day, though not much in the form of romance, and the mystery was well-crafted. I will definitely continue this series. The next one, A Midsummer Fang's Dream, is set in the summer, so I'll read it then.

I listened to In Farm's Way (Farm to Table Mystery 3), written by Amanda Flower and narrated by Rachel Dulude. I never met a book by Amanda Flower I didn't enjoy and this was no exception. A well-crafted mystery with ice fishing on the side had just the cozy winter feels I was looking for. The next one is called Crime and Cherry Pits and it is set in the summer, so I'll read or listen to it then.

IN PROGRESS
Week 9 in The Comfort of Crows: A Backyard Year, written by Margaret Renkl and illustrated by Billy Renkl, is my favorite chapter so far. It's titled "It's a Mystery", which caught my attention since I love mysteries (of the cozy variety). The author encounters something mysterious and tries to identify what it is. I won't give it away, but the outcome is quite amusing and the author's sleuthing taught me new things.
UP NEXT
Cue the pizza cravings! At Death's Dough (Deep Dish Mystery 5), by Mindy Quigley, is still up next. I will start reading it on Sunday. I won a paperback copy of this book last year and I'm excited to finally dive in! It is set around Valentine's Day. This book is nominated for an Agatha Award this year.
My next audiobook listen will be Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library (Lakeside Library Mystery 2). Not only does this take place in the winter, but February is National Library Lover's Month. So it's perfect timing all around.
ON THE SCREEN
- The Traitors - I haven't watched the reunion show yet, but I finished season 1. I'm not surprised who won, but it was an emotional conclusion. I can't wait to watch the reunion, then move on to season 2. (NO SPOILERS, PLEASE!)
- Psych - I re-watched a few more of my favorite episodes. It's been a comfort watch when I need a good laugh.
- The Golden Girls - I finished season 1 and now I feel ready to listen to the cozy mystery based on the characters. It's set in the spring, so that's when I'll listen to it on Libby.
- The Brady Bunch - I watched a few more episodes in season 1, while also listening to The Real Brady Bros podcast. Those guys laugh so much and they make me laugh. I love hearing their perspective on each episode.
- Valentine Ever After - This is a 2016 Hallmark movie that I enjoyed, so I watched it again. I still love it.
- Because of Cupid - This movie premiered on Hallmark this past Valentine's Day and I watched it during the week. It was really cute! I felt that they could have leaned into the whole Cupid and magic potion idea a lot more, though. That would have made it even better. At times it took itself too seriously. However, I would probably watch this one again.

Have a great week!

Good luck with your speed-puzzling. Fingers crossed that you will have a great time.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to see that you are still enjoying Comfort of Crows. Enjoy this last spot of cold weather...I am!
Thank you, Deb! I wonder if it will be the last of winter for us. The calendar says we still have about one more month. :)
DeleteThe speed-puzzling sounds like fun, especially since they give you plenty of time. I like your goals of having fun and not finishing last.
ReplyDeleteThe Olympics has been advertising the heck out of The Traitors. I haven't watched a reality show in forever, but I'm tempted by this one.
Me too, Joy! I stopped watching reality t.v. years ago, but I really liked season one of The Traitors! Can't wait to watch the rest of them. :)
DeleteSpeed puzzling sounds like fun. Good luck with it! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Yvonne! You too! :)
DeleteI am glad you are getting the snow storm you wanted, LOL! I wish you could have ours as well. We are in the 4-6 range, but we just had all of ours melted off on Wednesday (except the huge snow piles, they are still around), and I was not/am not ready for more. We have about an inch so far, but it is melting in places already.
ReplyDeleteCindy, feel free to post signs to send it my way! :-)
DeleteI feel like I would have a panic attack at something called speed-puzzling. LOL. I am not good under pressure! I hope that you have a great time though! It sounds like you are well prepared and ready!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's just something fun for us to do. We're not expecting to finish first, nor will we try to accomplish that. :)
DeleteGood luck with the puzzling! There's no way I could put a puzzle together quickly. I'd get distracted.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think it makes it easier that everyone is there for the same purpose - to work on the puzzle, and the tables are spread out enough so we can focus on our own work. :)
DeleteYou had to tell me about another podcast, didn't you? I'm about a week behind on the ones I'm already trying to listen to, and now I'm so far behind on this one. Thank you? ;)
ReplyDeleteI found that season 1 of The Traitors was the weakest. We are one episode away from the end of season 4, and I can't wait to find out what happened. I probably will have to wait until Friday night to watch it, however. As to season 2, I couldn't believe it when *spoiler* did *spoiler* :)
Mark, you're welcome. :-) I just recently started listening to The Real Brady Bros, so I'm a few years behind myself. It does drive me crazy that they don't go in order of how the television episodes aired, so I'm always Googling to find which episodes to listen to. (I'm sure this wouldn't bother anyone else.) And gee, thanks for the season 2 spoiler for The Traitors. You've ruined the whole season for me. LOL. Good to know that you found the first season to be the weakest. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of them. I'm glad I can binge them because waiting a week to watch each episode would be tough!! :)
DeleteEnjoy your snow, and your puzzling!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteGood luck with the competition!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great reading week
Thank you! :)
DeleteIt's snowing here, too. I don't mind as long as I don't have to go out and can watch it from the window. A speed puzzling competition sounds like so much fun, Carrie. Hope you do well. Great books this week.

Thank you, Cheryl! :)
DeleteSpeed puzzling sounds like fun. I hope your snow event isn't too bad. Our snow was very heavy and wet which made moving it difficult. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't bad. It was almost all gone by the next day. And yes, the heavy wet snow is more challenging! :)
DeleteWe got three inches or so today when we thought we might get 8 so that's good I guess but another few inches is now coming tomorrow night into Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteThe cozies look good!
I hope you did okay in the snow, Lisa! :)
DeleteAll the best for the puzzling competition. may you finish in a way that satisfies you both. Great looking cozy mysteries.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kathryn! :)
