This week I am linking with The Book Date, who hosts It's Monday! What are you reading? I've decided not to stack my shelves with anything new until after Labor Day. By the end of the month, I tend to just finish what I started and begin anew in the next month.
AUDIOBOOK
I finished Alexander Hamilton, by Ron Chernow. It's funny because last week on my blog I wrote that I would finish listening to it in the next couple of weeks. Those weeks turned into just a few days. LOL. As I got closer to the end, I wanted to just keep listening. This audiobook is 36 hours long and it took me almost two months to finish it. I lost focus a few times, but overall it held my interest. The narrator, Scott Brick, does an amazing job. I wonder how long it took him to record it and how many sessions he needed to accomplish that. I gave it four out of five stars on Goodreads.
PRINT BOOKS
My main reading goal last week was to finish The Summer We Forgot, by Caroline George, but I barely touched it. I think I may have read just one or two chapters. It is due back at the library next weekend, so I need to finish it this week.
I finished Happy Mind, Happy Life: The New Science of Mental Well-Being, by Rangan Chatterjee last week. I really enjoyed it. There are 10 strategies that can almost immediately be put into practice. It was good food for thought for me and I gave it five out of five stars on Goodreads.
I had planned on reading some of the short stories in The Original Illustrated Sherlock Holmes, by Arthur Conan Doyle and Sidney Paget (illustrator) last week, but that was a no-go. But another week is beginning and I'll try again to read at least one more short story in it this week.
That's all for now. Happy Reading and thanks for stopping by!
You have had a wonderful week of reading. Wow 36 hours for an audiobook. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Wendy! :-)
DeleteHappy Mind Happy Life sounds perfect, I love useful wisdom that we can apply.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Kathryn. I like the straightforward and practical tips he gives in the book. :-)
DeleteSounds like a good reading week for you, with plenty of variety! That audiobook would have been perfect for my Big Book Summer Challenge!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your books this week, too -

Book By Book
Sue, I do tend to read different types of books at the same time. Lol. Thanks! :-)
DeleteI have a lot of admiration for good audiobook narrators, how they can really bring a book to life! I don't listen to a lot of audio because I tend to get distracted, but I hear about so many good narrators!
ReplyDeleteGreg, if I'm not mistaken, Scott Brick has won awards for his narrations. I have listened to a few audiobooks this year (not all by him) and this was by far the best narrated one.
