What I'm Reading Week 6

Welcome to my sixth edition of What I'm Reading! I am linking with  Reading Reality. who hosts Stacking the Shelves, and The Book Date, who hosts It's Monday! What are you reading? You can stop by their blogs to find out what other participants are reading and to join the blog hops yourselves if you like. It's Monday! What are you reading? actually starts on Mondays, so be sure to stop by then. I prefer to post mine a day earlier to help me get organized for the week ahead.

The beginning of the month is always an exciting time for me. I went to the library yesterday to pick up some books that I'll be reading throughout September, in addition to some that I own.

Here's what I'm starting with this week (all borrowed from the library):

AUDIOBOOK
One of the book clubs I participate in is reading A Sprinkling of Murder, by Daryl Wood Gerber, this month. I already read it earlier this year and I loved it. This time around I'm listening to the audiobook on Hoopla through my library. So far, I am not enjoying it quite as much as I did the printed book. I think some things are better left up to my imagination. However, I still do love the story. It's the book that made me believe in fairies. One of my kittens, Fiona, is named after the fairy sidekick sleuth in this book.

PRINT BOOKS
As we here in the U.S. have reached the traditional end of summer, I finished reading The Summer We Forgot, by Caroline George, a few days ago. I won't say much about it here because I'm planning to post a review tomorrow. I hope you'll come back to read my spoiler-free thoughts on it.

The non-fiction book club I participate in is reading Limitless: Upgrade Your Brain, Learn Anything Faster, and Unlock Your Exceptional Life, by Jim Kwik, this month. I'm really excited to start this book today, partly because the foreword is written by Dr. Mark Hyman. I have been following Dr. Hyman for years. If he supports the book, I'm interested.

I'm finally getting back to my first love, cozy mysteries, with Cinnamon Roll Murder, by Joanne Fluke. This is number 15 in the Hannah Swensen series. I started reading it last night and I'm about one quarter of the way into it. It's a quick and easy read with lots of recipes scattered throughout the book, but I'm a slow reader, so it will still take me a few days to finish it. It's quite entertaining so far. I'm really enjoying it. It's also making me crave cinnamon rolls. The only thing I have the patience to bake is chocolate chip pecan blondies, so I might have to go out and buy myself a cinnamon roll just because!

That's all for this week. After tomorrow's post (my review of The Summer We Forgot), I will be taking a two-week break from blogging. I need to focus on other things for a while and in order to do that, I am going to limit the time I spend on the computer. I will be back in two weeks with my regular postings. I do plan to keep reading over the next two weeks, though maybe not as much.

Happy Reading!

  2. I'm so far behind on the Joanne Fluke series, but I will get there eventually :) The Darryl Wood Gerber series is another I want to read. I hope you enjoy your reading and have a great week!

    1. Thank you, Yvonne. The Joanne Fluke series is near and dear to my heart, as it's the one that made me realize cozies are where I belong. I really love the Fairy Garden Mysteries. Grateful that I discovered that series through the Goodreads challenge. :-)

  3. It's strange how some books are better as audiobook, and some are better as print. Looks like you have some terrific books here!

    1. Wendy, I think a lot of that depends on who the narrator is. Have a great week! :-)

  4. hmm, this nonfiction sounds great!
I love the font you are using by the way, though it would be easier on the eye if maybe you could insert a few book covers. Just a thought

  5. Haven't read Joanna Fluke or other cozy writers in a while, being taken up with the psych thrillers so popular now. One day, I'll pick up the cozies again...
