Top Ten Tuesday - Amateur Sleuths I'd Love to Meet

Happy National Authors Day to all the wonderfully creative and informative authors out there! Thank you for sharing your gift of writing with the world!

It's Tuesday, so I am once again linking with That Artsy Reader Girl who hosts Top Ten Tuesday. You can click on the link to her blog to view her list and the lists from other bloggers participating in this blog hop.

Today's suggested topic is unlikeable characters I can't help but love. However, I am putting my own spin on this and changing it to amateur sleuths in cozy mystery books I'd love to meet. They are all likeable and perceptive, but there are other reasons why I'd love to meet them. Here is my list of ten in alphabetical order by first name.

Brynn is dealing with grief in a way I have not seen in any other cozy and I would love to chat with her about her journey. I think we would have a lot in common. Plus, I've never met a witch and I think that would be crazy fun.

I mean, she runs a grilled cheese eatery. Does anything else really matter? My birthday is on National Grilled Cheese Day and I would definitely celebrate at her eatery every year. I'm sure I'd go there more often than that, though. I'd of course have to taste test menu items so I know exactly what to order on my birthday.

Carrie is an event planner in her local library, which happens to have a resident ghost. Her library seems like a fun place to visit and I would love to attend the events Carrie plans (minus the murders).

Courtney Kelly from Fairy Garden Mysteries, by Daryl Wood Gerber
Courtney owns Open Your Imagination, a fairy garden shop, in the picturesque town of Carmel by the Sea.  Carmel by the Sea is a real place and it looks and sounds so charming. I would love to shop at her store and have her teach me how to create a fairy garden or home. (Book 1 in this series is next on my list to review on my blog.)

Fiona Knox from Magic Garden Mysteries, by Amanda Flower
My kitten was not named after this Fiona, but I certainly don't mind that they share a name. If I ever visit Scotland, I'd have someone to show me around. I would also love for Fiona to show me around her magic garden.

Fiona, the fairy from Fairy Garden Mysteries, by Daryl Wood Gerber
Maybe this is cheating because it's from a series I already wrote about and she's more of a sidekick sleuth, but I can't leave out the character who one of my kittens is named after. Fiona the fairy is one of my favorite characters in any book. She is simply delightful.

Hannah is the first ever amateur sleuth I met through a book (and movie) and I would be so happy to meet her in person. She drinks a lot of coffee, which I do not, but she also owns a bakery. I can see myself stopping by The Cookie Jar to treat myself to some baked goods while we sit and chat about sleuthing and cats. I also love that Hannah is always so warm and welcoming. She's a people person I can see myself getting along with well. She's the kind of friend (and family member) who would always be there for you. I would also love to meet her cat, Moishe.

Miss Marple from Miss Marple Mysteries, by Agatha Christie
How could I not mention the queen of cozies? Miss Marple is very observant and I want to pick up some of her veteran sleuthing skills. I think I could learn a lot from spending a day with her.

Quinn Carr from Crossword Puzzle Mysteries, by Becky Clark
Quinn not only solves crossword puzzles, but she also creates them for others to solve. I'm not great at solving crossword puzzles and I think Quinn would help me hone my skills.

Shiloh Bellamy from Farm to Table Mysteries, by Amanda Flower
Shiloh could teach me a lot about organic farming. It isn't practical for me to run a farm, but I support organic farms, especially local ones, as often as possible. It would be interesting to learn more about them from Shiloh.

I have not been an avid reader for very long - just over a year now. So I have a lot to catch up on. Also, there are always new cozies being released. So I know I will get to know many more amateur sleuths in the near future. Are there any others you would recommend I get to know?

  2. A grilled cheese eatery? Yes please.

I really liked the Book Retreat series by Ellery Adams and Well Read then Dead by Terrie Moran also.

  7. This is a fabulous topic! I love it. I've only read a few of the Hannah Swensen books and the first Farm to Trouble one, so I'm not familiar with very many of these. If you haven't checked out the Noodle Shop mystery series by Vivien Chien yet, that's one I definitely recommend. Lana is a fun heroine who seems like the type of person I'd want to hang out with. I also like Sloan Krause of the Sloan Krause cozy series by Ellie Alexander. She doesn't have as much of a personality as Lana does, but she's a caring person who's loyal and loving.

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
