Last week, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries announced that another movie in the Hannah Swensen series (previously called Murder, She Baked) is currently being filmed and will air later this year. Of all the mysteries on Hallmark, this is by far my favorite. It's the reason why I was drawn to the channel in the first place, so I'm very excited that there is more to come! This means I need to finish reviewing the first six movies in the series, so onward we go!
A Deadly Recipe is the fourth movie in the Murder, She Baked series and it is based on the fifth Hannah Swensen mystery book, Fudge Cupcake Murder, by Joanne Fluke. The dead body of someone prominent in the small town of Eden Lake, Minnesota is found dead. Hannah once again immerses herself in this murder investigation, while also running her bakery, The Cookie Jar.
What I love most about this installment is all the red herrings. We are led and misled in different directions and I did not see the end of this one coming at all. However, when it did all come together I realized I should have at least suspected who the murderer turned out to be. This is the best kind of mystery! There's also a subplot with a different kind of light mystery. While the movie follows the same basic formula as the previous ones, the end of this one is a little different.
I don't watch mysteries for the romance, even though romance is what Hallmark specializes in. I don't mind a little of it, but I'm okay with not having it be a main part of the movies. The love triangle in this fourth installment continues, but not too much.
It's been a while since I read the book that this movie is based on and I can't remember exactly how it plays out, but I do remember that the basic premise is the same. The main characters are also the same, although they differ in appearances. Despite the fact that there are differences, I always enjoy both the books and movies.
Although these movies do involve murder, I love the overall happy tone of them. The movies have all begun with upbeat, happy music and each movie concludes with an epilogue filled with warm fuzzies. Despite the growing crime rate, it makes me want to visit Eden Lake and hang out with Hannah and her friends and family. Unless things drastically change, I will keep coming back for more.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :-)
DeleteIf we ever afford cable TV again, i'll have to get this channel.
ReplyDeleteI don't have cable. I subscribe to Fubo for live t.v., but I'm thinking of switching to Frndly since I don't watch the news and I rarely watch sports anymore. They have all the channels I like to watch and they're much more affordable. I think it's only $7 a month and just a few dollars more if you want DVR service. :-)
