Hello, friends!
This week's Top Ten (and more) Tuesday is my monthly movie roundup, so I will not be linking with the usual blog hop. This is a list of all the movies I watched in February and the ratings I gave them on Letterboxd (stars translated to mushrooms here).
Letterboxd allows for half stars, but I'm sticking to whole mushrooms. The heart is if the movie had the "it" factor, that something special. It does not have to earn five mushrooms in order to earn a heart. There could be plot holes, etc., but if it's a favorite for whatever reason, it earned a heart.
The number on the left is the date in February when I watched the movie. A couple of movies I watched over a period of a couple days. The date is when I finished watching it. However, I watch most movies in one day (half in the morning and half in the afternoon).
I really enjoyed the first Black Panther movie, but the follow-up didn't deliver for me. They did have the tough task of respectfully mourning the loss of Chadwick Boseman and they certainly accomplished that. However, I was hoping for something more uplifting after the mourning. I wanted to love it, but it didn't hit the mark for me. It was also too long. I wish we could go back to the days when even blockbuster movies averaged just about two hours.
And now, I present to you my February 2023 Caboodle of Movies!
1 Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)ππ
2 Murder, She Baked: A Peach Cobbler Mystery (2016)ππππππ
5 The Secret Ingredient (2020)ππππ
6 Curious Caterer: Grilling Season (2023)πππππ
7 Sweeter Than Chocolateππππ
8 Love in Glacier National: A National Park Romance (2023)π
10 The Dog Lover's Guide to Dating (2023)ππ
13 A Paris Proposal (2023)πππππ
14 Love Blossoms (2017)ππππ
15 Murder, She Baked: A Deadly Recipe (2016)ππππππ
16 Francesca Quinn, PI (2022)ππππ
17 Nikki and Nora: Sister Sleuths (2022)πππππ
21 Welcome to Valentine (2023)πππ
20 The Story of Us (2019)ππππ
23 A Dater's Handbook (2020)πππππ
24 A Winter Getaway (2021)πππ
27 Made for Each Other (2023)πππππ
28 A Nashville Legacy (2023)πππ
Here's how I would rank the five mysteries from this list (Since I'm catching up on older ones, these are not all from 2023.):
5. Francesca Quinn, PI
4. Nikki and Nora: Sister Sleuths
3. Curious Caterer: Grilling Season
2. Murder, She Baked: A Peach Cobbler Mystery
1. Murder, She Baked: A Deadly Recipe
And here's how I would rank the February 2023 premieres:
6 Welcome to Valentine
5 A Nashville Legacy
4 Sweeter Than Chocolate
3 A Paris Proposal
2 Made for Each Other
1 Curious Caterer: Grilling Season
I will almost always choose a mystery as my number one choice since that's my favorite genre. It doesn't always work out that way, but this time it did.
I thought Welcome to Valentine was going to be a road trip movie, but it was very different than what I expected (and not in a great way).
I loved the music in A Nashville Legacy, but the story didn't captivate me the way I hoped it would. I think the problem was in the writing.
Sweeter Than Chocolate is a true Valentine's Day movie and it was really good. I just wish it dove deeper into why the lead female character took so long to eat her own chocolates that she sells. That aspect didn't make sense to me. I would probably watch it again, though.
If A Paris Proposal wasn't based on a lie that I didn't quite buy as a premise, this would have ranked higher for me. I loved every other aspect of the movie.
Made for Each Other was quirky and fun, which was why I ranked it high. It was refreshingly different and I loved that about it.
Overall, the February premieres were better than those in January. For example, Love in Glacier National: A National Park Romance was an avalanche. It's the only Hallmark movie I've ever given one star.π³
I am also still watching The Way Home on Hallmark each week. If you have not seen this show, I highly recommend it. It gets better and better each week and although Season 1 hasn't ended yet, it's been renewed for a second season. I love everything about it, including the mystery that is at the heart of it. (I think it would be more fitting for the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Channel. Sometimes I don't understand the decisions Hallmark makes. Lol.)
Have you seen any of these? If so, what are your thoughts on them? What was your favorite movie that you watched in February? (It doesn't have to be a Hallmark movie.)
This is fun to see what you thought of the movies you saw, I love movie reviews and posting.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Greg! :-)
DeleteIt's nice to read honest reviews from someone who watches to enjoy, not to be a snooty reviewer.
ReplyDeleteThank you. :-)
DeleteNow I have a list of movies to watch! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Wendy! :-)
