Question: What is your go-to website to check out book reviews?
My response: This year, I learned about Storygraph and that's primarily what I've been using. I like the components of the reviews on Storygraph.
Reviewers can
- give star ratings (quarter, half, three-quarter, and whole stars are allowed)
- provide a written explanation of the book (similar to Goodreads)
- select the mood/s of the book
- select the pace of the book
- list content warnings and select how much of each warning the book contains
- select whether the book is primarily plot-driven, character-driven, or a mix of both
Today's excerpt is from page 56 of the Hoopla format on my phone of Love by Chance, Kacy Cross. I am about halfway through this e-book.
Short and sweet, but it this one sentence captures the essence of why I love this book. Although there is some deceit involved, which I think is necessary to the plot because without it there would be no conflict, there is also a lot of meaningful dialogue. The two lead characters spend quality time talking and getting to know each other. They talk about the small stuff, as well as more meaningful topics.
Next Monday, April 17th, is National Tortie Day, so today I want to share a picture of Bell. She is a dilute tortie, so instead of orange and black, her colors are cream and gray. On her very first vet visit last year, I was asked if she has a certain kind of attitude (a.k.a. tortitude). At the time, I didn't see it. In fact, when they were still young kittens, Fiona was the more feisty one with the attitude.
I can say with confidence now that Bell has most definitely grown into her tortitude. She is a very cuddly cat who is always up for a good snuggle. However, she is also very outspoken, a bit moody at times, and very set in her ways. I know that cats in general are like this, but these characteristics are much more prominent in her than in any other cat I've had. She also has this funny little thing she does with her head. When she's studying something (I call her Sherlock Bell), she twists her head as if she's trying to see it (or me) from a different angle. The funniest is when she does the twisty head thing and talks to me at the same time. All of the above make me love her more and more each day.
I think I had an account on Storygraph but never used it. I like to use Librarything to help short my books.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Librarything. I'll have to look into that! :-)
DeleteI don't remember hearing about Storygraph before, but that sounds like a good system. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kym! :-)
DeleteBell is cute, and of course she has tortitude. We used to have a tortie and she was only 6 pounds. At that time we had 11 cats and nobody dared to cross her.
ReplyDeleteLol! That's pretty much how Bell is. It's all fun and games until you cross her. :-)
DeleteI'd never heard of Storygraph, but I'm going to have to check it out! Bell is such a pretty tortie! I had one similar, but she had a touch of brownish-orange among her cream and gray.
ReplyDeleteShe sounds like a beauty! :-)
DeleteIt sounds like a good website to consult before going all in and buying a book.
ReplyDeleteBell is most beautiful. Thank you for joining Feline Friday!
Thank you! :-)
DeleteI discovered Storygraph this year too! I sent you a friend request because I also have no friends on Storygraph. My username is czarfancypants.

ReplyDeleteYour book looks fun too! Happy weekend!
I accepted your request on Goodreads, but I'm not able to find you on Storygraph. Can you send me a request there?
DeleteBell is quite bellisimo! Love torties! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kathe! :-)
DeleteThe 56 book sounds good to me. I'll have to look for it. Bell is adorable!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Yvonne! :-) I hope you're able to find it. For borrowing, I was only able to find it on Hoopla.
