Top Ten (and More) Tuesday: April Caboodle of Movies

Hello, friends!

This week's Top Ten (and more) Tuesday is my monthly movie roundup. This is a list of all the movies I watched in April and the ratings I gave them on Letterboxd (stars translated to mushrooms here).

Letterboxd allows for half stars, but I'm sticking to whole instead of sliced mushrooms. The heart indicates when the movie had the "it" factor, that something special that makes it a favorite of mine. It does not have to earn five mushrooms in order to earn a heart. There could be plot holes, etc., but if it was still immensely enjoyable, it earned a heart. Also, if it received five mushrooms, it didn't necessarily earn a heart. It might have been a great movie, but not one I'd want to see again because there were some elements I didn't like.

The number on the left is the date in April when I watched the movie. Most of the time, I watch half a movie in the morning while having breakfast and the second half in the afternoon while having lunch. Hallmark movies, which are mostly what I watch, are all less than 90 minutes long without commercials, so via DVR I can easily watch one per day most days. However, I did watch several non-Hallmark movies in April.

Without further ado, here's the list:

Here is my ranking of the Harry Potter movies from least favorite to favorite:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
1 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

The first one in the series is a solid movie and it maintains the whimsy and lightness that I enjoyed so much. That's why Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is easily my favorite one. I watched it in March.

The only other non-Hallmark movie I watched in April was The Fabelmans. I enjoyed it immensely, except for the foul language. The pacing was flawless and it held my attention the entire time.

Francesca Quinn, PI was a re-watch and I enjoyed it much more the second time around. I am planning to post a review of it in May or June.

My favorite movie that I watched in April was Hallmark's Signed, Sealed, Delivered. This is the pilot that started the long running series and I can see why it has lasted as long as it has. It's a very different kind of mystery series. I finished watching the ten t.v. episodes that came after the pilot movie, but the next movie in the series takes place around Christmastime. So I might watch that one in July (Christmas in July), then watch the rest of those movies.

And that's a wrap on my April caboodle of movies! Do you see anything here that interests you or do you have any recommendations for me?

  1. The Harry Potter stories got darker and more grim as time went on. I wonder sometimes how much of it was because the plot called for it, and how much was because the author, instead of being able to take her time and be herself and make her schedule, had to meet deadlines and please editors and the fan base. And did she get jaded with the whole process because of the hoopla? We'll never know, but i have wondered.

    1. I have read that she spent years planning the entire series before the first book was even published. The entire saga flows so well, I think it was all probably her idea from the very beginning (except for details she added along the way). :-)
