Question: Do you prefer to read standalone or series books?
My response: Given that I primarily read cozy mysteries, which are almost always series, I'd have to say my preference is series books. I enjoy getting to know the characters better and see how they and their circumstances change over time. They become like friends. However, I do read some standalones too.
Today's excerpts are from the hardcover format of Death on the Shelf (Haunted Library Mystery 5), by Allison Brook.
"I can't believe it! This simply cannot be happening!" Angela Vecchio looked up from her cell phone and burst into tears.
And here's an excerpt from page 56:
Before I could mention I just received a discount, senor Dominguez said, "Elena, please give this nice young lady a ten percent discount because she's a great friend to the shop." With that, the owner winked at me and left the shop whistling.
I like this series a lot, and this installment is no different so far. At the rate I'm reading in general, it might take me all of next week to finish it. When I do, I'll post a review.
The first line does make you wonder what upset her so much! I hope you enjoy this one. Have a great weekend!

ReplyDeleteSame here, Anne! :-)
DeleteBell looks like she is having a lot of fun.
ReplyDeletePossibly too much fun for her own good! :-)
DeleteA series can be great, as long as the quality is kept up, and most of them are.
ReplyDeleteA story which starts out with someone so upset can only get better from there, right?
Bell looks like "Busy Bell" in this photo.
Thank you for joining Feline Friday!
Busy Bell is the perfect name for her. :-)
