Five for Friday - Book Preferences, a Haunted Library, and a Cat on a Fairy Home

Happy Friday, friends!

I'm once again participating in five blog hops today. You can click on the host links below to read the blogs of others who are participating in each blog hop. If you're a blogger, feel free to join through their links!

QuestionDo you prefer to read standalone or series books?

My response: Given that I primarily read cozy mysteries, which are almost always series, I'd have to say my preference is series books. I enjoy getting to know the characters better and see how they and their circumstances change over time. They become like friends. However, I do read some standalones too.

Today's excerpts are from the hardcover format of Death on the Shelf (Haunted Library Mystery 5), by Allison Brook.

Here are the first few sentences:
"I can't believe it! This simply cannot be happening!" Angela Vecchio looked up from her cell phone and burst into tears.

And here's an excerpt from page 56:
Before I could mention I just received a discount, senor Dominguez said, "Elena, please give this nice young lady a ten percent discount because she's a great friend to the shop." With that, the owner winked at me and left the shop whistling.

I like this series a lot, and this installment is no different so far. At the rate I'm reading in general, it might take me all of next week to finish it. When I do, I'll post a review.

This fairy home is loved in a way only Bell and Fiona know how to show their love for it. They occasionally go inside one at a time, but mostly they wrestle with it. Here is Bell rolling around all over it. She's not relaxed in this picture. You might be able to tell by the look in her eyes.

  6. A series can be great, as long as the quality is kept up, and most of them are.

A story which starts out with someone so upset can only get better from there, right?

Bell looks like "Busy Bell" in this photo.

Thank you for joining Feline Friday!
