Five for Friday - Books, Whims, and Cat Naps

Happy Friday, friends!

I'm once again participating in five blog hops today. You can click on the host links below to read the blogs of others who are participating in each blog hop. If you're a blogger, feel free to join through their links!

Question: Have you ever been enticed to read more by an author by a book?

My response: Yes, quite often. If I like the first book in a series, I'm likely to continue the series and possibly explore other books they've written.

Today's excerpts are from the audiobook format of You Can't Candle the Truth (Glenmyre Whim Mystery 1), by Sarah E Burr.

Here are the first few sentences:
"Mmhmmm, smells delicious, Hazel. Watcha brewing?"
I gave my aunt a pointed stare as she glided effortlessly into the kitchen. "You make me sound like a witch."
"Am I that far off the mark? You're literally standing in front of a cauldron." Poppy Glenymyre tossed her faux leather satchel onto a ladder-back chair.
"It's just a pot, Pops. A big ol' pot."

And here's an excerpt from 56%. It's a conversation between the main character and the detective:
"She catered a lunch up at FPT last Monday." Holden was busy taking notes on his phone when he looked up in surprise. "The day [insert name] died?" I nodded. "Grant invited Kevin to the meeting to talk about his son coming back to FPT. Jada made it sound almost like an intervention. Kevin didn't stay long before storming out on Grant on Yvonne." Holden's brow furrowed. "Really."

I prefer not to know ahead of time who the victim is, so that's why I left out the name in the excerpt and didn't spoil it for you. I like trying to guess who the victim will be as much as I like guessing who the culprit is.

This was my second time listening to this audiobook. Since it's been a couple of months since I listened to it the first time and I didn't post a review, I thought I'd listen to it again and post my review next week. So, stay tuned!

The girls like to nap near the balcony door, especially after dinner. There is a large area where they can spread out more, but they prefer to sleep in the narrow space behind their tower.

  2. Cats never take the most logical place, but that is what makes them so endearing.

  3. I love all these clever titles!!! The play on words in the title is sometimes enough to draw me into the book. :-) Happy weekend!

  4. You're right, if the first book is excellent, it's a great inducement to read the next.

Your kitties like to be cozy back there. Lots of cats do like snuggly places better than wide open spaces.

Thank you for joining Feline Friday!

    1. Very true about snuggly places. I guess that's why they also like boxes. :)
