Five for Friday - Fictional Characters, a Refreshing Change, and Vet Visits

Happy Friday, friends!

I'm once again participating in five blog hops today. You can click on the host links below to read the blogs of others who are participating in each blog hop. If you're a blogger, feel free to join through their links!

QuestionWhat fictional character would you most like to meet in person.

My response:  I can't just choose one. It would have to be Tinker Bell, the Disney fairy, and Fiona, the fairy sleuth from the Fairy Garden Mysteries, by Daryl Wood Gerber. These are the fairies my cats are named after, so how could I choose anyone different?

Today's excerpts are from the paperback format of The Firefly Jar (Crickley Creek 1), by Laurie Beach.  This is a nice departure from what I read most of the time. It's a contemporary southern romance.

Here are the first few sentences:
Charlotte was late. Few things bothered her more than arriving late, even if it was just a party. Oh, please, let Mrs. Buchanan be understanding. She'd never met the hostess, an unfamiliarity that added to the headache behind her eyes.

And here's an excerpt from page 56:
She couldn't believe it. [insert name here]'s hair was barely moving in the breeze, his face flushed, offering her this gift, saving her from further embarrassment, from the anguish of dealing with [insert name here]. "This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me."

I omitted some names because I didn't want to give away any spoilers. I am a little more than 20% into the book and I'm really enjoying it.  However, I must say that I've been reading so many cozy mysteries that when a character didn't show up on time for work one day in this book, my mind automatically went to "He's dead?!"

I think the change is good for me. :-)

The girls had their one year vet visits this week. They got a clean bill of health, but I say visits in the plural form because it took two visits to get Fiona's claws trimmed. On the regular visit, after her exam, they attempted to trim her claws. They did the back claws with no problem, but they were only able to trim a couple of the front claws before Fiona made it clear to the world she wasn't having any of it.

They decided they would try again on a day when she didn't have to go through the physical exam first. It would be an appointment just for claw trimming. If they still couldn't do it, then she would have to be sedated. I'm happy to report the second appointment went very well yesterday, all claws were trimmed, and no sedation was needed. The vet techs commented on how strong she is. She's obviously been working out.

  1. I am glad they were able to trim Fiona's claws at the second attempt. Vet visits are never fun.

  3. I'm glad everything worked out for the girls. I always hate having to take mine to the vet. It's always such a big production. The Firefly Jar sounds really good. I hope you have a good weekend.

  4. This question is kind of hard for me. Which is why I did last week's prompt. I think I would like to meet Qwilliam and his two Siamese cats Koko and Yumyum from the Cat Who...mysteries series.

  6. I can see how reading mystery after mystery would make you automatically think a character in a book died if s/he didn't show up to work.

Hooray for a successful claw trim and a good, clean bill of health for both of them.

Thank you for joining Feline Friday!

  8. Immediately thinking someone is dead when they are late to work - I resemble that very much. At least in fiction. I don't think that in real life.

  9. I enjoyed this, my first visit. I'd say she is working out and I leave my weights within Katoe's reach too...could be why she can give the techs a run for their money.
