Happy Top Ten Tuesday (on a Wednesday)!
Welcome to my monthly list of movies watched and books read and listened to!
MOVIES
Letterboxd allows for half star ratings for movies, but I'm sticking to whole instead of sliced mushrooms. The heart indicates when the movie had the "it" factor, that something special that makes it a favorite of mine. It's probably one I would re-watch. It does not have to earn five mushrooms in order to earn a heart. There could be plot holes, etc., but if it was still immensely enjoyable, it earned a heart.
The number on the left is the date in August when I watched the movie. Most of the time, I watch half a movie in the morning while having breakfast and the second half in the afternoon while having lunch. Hallmark movies, which are mostly what I watch, are all less than 90 minutes long without commercials, so via DVR, I can easily watch one per day most days.
August was mostly about summer, with some murder mysteries, a little Signed, Sealed, Delivered, and a couple of other non-Hallmark movies sprinkled in. If I posted a review of the movie, the title is linked to that post.

Here are some of my favorites from the month of August:
Favorite movie overall: Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Lost Without You
I have enjoyed all of the Signed, Sealed, Delivered movies, but this one really brought tears to my eyes (in a good way).
Favorite non-Hallmark movie: Wonder
This was my second time watching this movie and I loved it just as much the second time. My only complaint is that they didn't higher an actor who has a facial difference in real life. It was all done with makeup. The makeup was believable and the actor did an amazing job in the role, but the movie industry has much work to do in hiring actors who are disabled in real life. But all that aside, this is a wonderful movie that I think everyone should watch (along with reading the book that it's based on). It has a great message without being too preachy or inspirational. (The vast majority of disabled individuals do not want to be viewed as inspirational simply for living ours lives and doing what most others do on a daily basis.)
Favorite Hallmark Summer Nights 2023 movie: Napa Ever After
This is not only my favorite 2023 Summer Nights movie, but it's also my favorite Mahogony movie so far. It wasn't perfect, but it was very enjoyable and I would watch it again. (And this is coming from someone who doesn't drink wine.)
Favorite Hallmark summer-themed movie that premiered before 2023: Pearl in Paradise
Hallmark rarely impresses me with their destination movies, but this one is a winner. It didn't rely only on beautiful scenery. The story was interesting and of course the dynamic duo of Jill Wagner and Kristoffer Polaha are always a joy to watch.
No new mysteries aired on Hallmark in August, so I used that opportunity to catch up on some that I hadn't reviewed yet. Those reviews are linked to the titles in the list above.
BOOKS
Bookmory is an app that generates a calendar when I enter the books I read or listened to. I linked the title to those for which I've posted reviews.

Cheddar Late Than Dead (Grilled Cheese Mystery 3), written by Linda Reilly, narrated by Mia Gaskinπ§
I don't give hearts for books like I do for movies because I rarely re-read books. When I do, it's usually because I haven't reviewed it yet and I need to refresh my memory before I do or because it's part of a book club and I need to refresh my memory for that reason. Otherwise, there are too many that I want to read and it would take too much time to reread them. Also, many of them are part of a series, of which I have so much catching up to do!
For the month of August, You Can't Candle the Truth and Cheddar Late Than Dead were both books I had listened to or read before. I listened to the audiobooks for both of them in August and I enjoyed them equally as much the second time around.
That's all for now! How was your month of watching and reading?
You're right about not rereading often, there are too many I haven't read and I'd never get time to do both.
ReplyDeleteI barely have time to read the ones I haven't read yet. Lol. It's much easier and faster to re-watch a movie, though. :)
