Four for Friday - Reading Speed, Agatha Christie, and Cozy Mysteries

Happy Friday, friends!

Today I'm participating in four blog hops. The host for Friday 56 is taking a break, but I'll continue to share excerpts. You can click on the host links below to read the blogs of others who are participating in each blog hop. If you're a blogger, feel free to join through their links!

Question: How long does it usually take you to finish a book?

My response: Most of the time, I spend about ten days with print or e-books and five to seven days with audiobooks.

Today, September 15th, is Agatha Christie's birthday, which is the reason for National Cozy Mystery Day. To celebrate, I'm going to share excerpts from the e-book format of The Mysterious Affair at Styles. This was Agatha Christie's first book, published in 1920. This is also the book where we first meet Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot. I have not yet read this book, but it's on my TBR list.

Here are the first few of sentences:
The intense interest aroused in the public by what was known at the time as "The Styles Case" has now somewhat subsided. Nevertheless, in view of the world-wide notoriety which attended it, I have been asked, both by my friend Poirot and the family themselves, to write an account of the whole story. This, we trust, will effectually silence the sensational rumours which still persist.
And here's an excerpt from 56%.
We are face to face with an entirely new problem.

I chose this sentence from 56% because I thought it was interesting how a new problem arises more than halfway through the book. I look forward to reading this book, probably next year.

My two favorite cozy mysteries. This scene is becoming more and more common in the mornings when I wake up. It used to be that only Fiona slept here. She obviously isn't giving it up even though Bell has made her way there!

  1. I forgot today was Agatha Christie's birthday! Happy Cozy Mystery Day! I love a good cozy mystery and Agatha Christie is one of my favorite mystery writers of all time. I love that your cats are cuddlers. My two previous cats were too, but I get excited now with my current two are sleeping on my bed at the same time, at their separate ends. LOL They are mostly friendly and one cat will let the other groom her sometimes, but they aren't affectionate with each other otherwise. I hope you have a great weekend!

    1. Oh, believe me. This is rare. They do cuddle and groom each other sometimes, but they mostly like they're own space! :)

  2. I’m currently reading The Love Script by Toni Shiloh. It’s really cute!
“The wind whipped through the car’s sunroof, the sound competing with a serenade by H.E.R. on the R&B station as I drove down Coldwater Canyon.”
I hope you have a great weekend! πŸ˜€❤️πŸ“š

  3. I have read a few Agatha Christie mysteries, but not this one. It sounds fascinating.

Bell and Fiona are probably enjoying sleeping together for warmth and cuddles.

Thank you for joining Feline Friday!

  4. I've read very little Christie, including this book. Those are some good quotes, and it makes me want to read it.

    1. Mark, I have only read a few of her books. I especially have enjoyed the Hercule Poirot ones. :-)
