Sunday Post 51

Hello, friends!

Through Monday I am linking with the following:

On these blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

It has been another difficult week. Another friend of mine passed away unexpectedly and way too soon. I met him in person twice. Last November, he started joining a weekly virtual meetup that I host. He regularly attended those meetups when he wasn't traveling and he sometimes filled in for me as host when I was unable to make it. He was a very strong advocate in the disability community and a dear friend of mine who I will miss more than words can say. I really looked forward to getting to know him more and I'm sad I will no longer have that opportunity.

On a much lighter note, we had some rain on Friday and Saturday, which was followed by a significant cooldown. I love crisp, cool fall weather, so this makes me happy. And I've noticed the leaves changing colors more. I'm going to try to make the most of this week and enjoy it to the fullest. The cats seem to be enjoying the cooler weather, too. They are extremely giddy when the windows are open!

RECENTLY FINISHED
πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„
I listened to Class Reunions are Murder (Poppy McAllister Mystery 1), written by Libby Klein and narrated by Callie Beaulieu. I enjoyed the main characters and I want to continue the series. The mystery was good, too. However, there were so many suspects, I kept losing track of them. Also, I wish the audiobook had the recipes like the print format does. When all of the content isn't included, it's a disservice to those whose only option is to listen to audiobooks.

IN PROGRESS
I'm still reading Double Booked for Death (Black Cat Bookshop Mystery 1), by Ali Brandon. I'm making progress when I have the time and energy to read it. I am enjoying it. To read some excerpts from this book, click here.
I continued reading the e-ARC of Magic, Movies, and Murder (Bewitcher's Beach Mystery 1), by Emily Fluke. It's a really fun paranormal that also takes place at this time of year, but in the 1990's. Have some popcorn to snack on while reading this book!
UP NEXT
Double Fudge Brownie Murder
(Hannah Swensen Mystery 18), by Joanne Fluke, is still next on my list to read. I am hoping to slowly but surely catch up on this series sometime next year.
My next audiobook listen this week will be If You've Got it, Haunt it (Haunted Vintage Mystery 1), written by Rose Pressey and narrated by Tara Orchs. I have been looking forward all year to reading (or listening to) this book! It's the October pick for The Cozy Mystery Book Club. I wasn't able to finish reading the September pick in time, but since this one is on audiobook on Hoopla, that shouldn't be a problem.
ON TELEVISON
  • Hallmark movies - I watched Mystery Island and A Zest for Death: A Hannah Swensen Mystery, which were both 2023 mystery premieres. I'm hoping to get my reviews up for them this week. I also watched A Very Venice Romance, which was okay. It's another destination movie that had great scenery, but not a great plot in my opinion. I also think it would have been better to put it in the summer lineup. And finally, I watched Love, of Course, which is a 2018 fall-themed movie. I loved it!
  • Friends - Monica has met "Happy" and they are about to become a couple. (If you're a Marvel fan, you'll know who I'm referring to. He'll always be Happy to me.) I forgot to mention something about the character of Eddie, who I think was in season 2. Has anyone out there in the blogosphere watched God Friended Me? I really enjoyed that show and was disappointed when it ended. Anyway, Eddie on Friends was played by Adam Goldberg. I was excited to see him again when he was on God Friended Me.
  • Ahsoka - Not a bad finale, but I'm not sad this show is over. I had a difficult time staying interested in it.
  • Loki - The long-awaited Season 2 has begun! I loved Season 1 and I'm so excited this series is continuing. I enjoyed the first episode and look forward to the rest of the season.

WEEKLY BLOG RECAP
Yup. That's all I posted over the past week. I'm hoping to be in a better frame of mind this week so I can do more reading and blogging. I also have a puzzle I want to finish working on.

Have a great week, everyone!

  1. I am sorry to hear about your friend. How sad.

I finally finished Ahsoka but it was kind of weird how they all just changed places lol? I'm looking forward to Loki...

  2. I watched AHSOKA and I really like her, but the other characters…not so much. Maybe they’ll shake things up for a better second season. For example, Thrawn clearly threw Morgan under the bus. It would’ve been an incredible twist to have her double-cross him. Such a missed opportunity to ratchet up the tension. -Kimber Li from the American Elf blog.

    1. Lol. I'm the complete opposite. Ahsoka was the least interesting character to me. I enjoyed all of the others. :)

  5. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend.

I was a God Friended Me fan. Don't remember the episode you are talking about with that guest star since it's been a couple of years since I watched the show.

    1. Mark, thank you. On Friends, Adam Goldberg played Chandler's temporary roommate when Joey moved out. On God Friended Me Adam Goldberg played Simon Hayes. He was introduced at the end of Season 1 and played a pretty significant role in Season 2. He was the one they thought might be behind the God account, but then we found out he wasn't. I'm sure you'd recognize him if you saw a picture. :)

  6. I'm sorry about the loss of your friend.

It has finally cooled down here, and I'm relieved. I was beginning to wonder if this heat would be four seasons a year instead of just three.

  7. Condolences on the loss of your friend. I'm not quite as enthusiastic as you are about fall weather. I like the summer heat and light. Nice looking assortment of cozies too. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. Thank you, Kathy. I do like the light in the summer too, but if I have to choose between crisp, cool weather and more sunlight, I'd choose the cooler weather. :)

  10. I am finishing reading, "Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine" by Gail Honeyman. It is a touching and beautifully written novel that explores themes of loneliness, trauma, and the power of human connection. The story's quirky and complex protagonist, Eleanor Oliphant, is both endearing and relatable. As readers follow her journey, they will find themselves immersed in her world and rooting for her personal growth and happiness. The novel combines humor, heartache, and hope in a compelling narrative that keeps you engaged until the very end. Overall, it's a highly recommended read for those who enjoy character-driven stories with emotional depth.

  11. I am so sorry to hear about your friend's passing. Losing someone young and suddenly is so difficult.

The weather here was cooler today and I was able to open the windows. My cats enjoy open window time too.

All of your cozy reads sound so good. I especially want to read Double Booked for Death.

We saw the first episode of Loki (second season) last night and really enjoyed it. I am glad to hear you did too.

Take care and I hope you have a good week.

    1. Thank you. Unfortunately, the windows can only stay open a little bit because they tend to lunge at the screen when they see even the tiniest bug. :)
