Five for Friday - Gratitude, Promise, and a Cat-tive Audience

Happy Friday, friends!

Today I'm participating in five blog hops. The host for Friday 56 is taking a break, but this blog hop will now be hosted by My Head is Full of Books. You can click on the host links below to read the blogs of others who are participating in each blog hop. If you're a blogger, feel free to join through their links!

Question: What are you thankful for the most this year?

My response: I'm so glad you asked! I've been posting gratitude daily on my blog since November 1st.  To see how it works and to participate if you like, click the Golden Gratitude label on the right sidebar or click here.

Today's excerpts are from the audiobook format of A Heartfelt Christmas Promise, by Nancy Naigle.

Here are the first couple sentences:
Vanessa slid her hand along the slick wooden banister as she climbed the stairs. The warmth of the wood softened the appearance of the decorative black wrought-iron balusters - a real statement of strength and beauty.
And here's a teaser from 56%:
"Everyone wishes they'd done something differently. The problem is the longer you avoid life, the harder it becomes to revisit those things in the future no matter how badly you might want them."

The excerpt from 56% is a secondary character speaking words of wisdom to the main character, Vanessa. This is a very light romance, but more than that, it's about the entire community of people in a small town. It's like a Hallmark movie in the form of a book, but with even less emphasis of the romance aspect. The entire first half of the book takes place just before and on Thanksgiving Day. I love that it includes Thanksgiving because I don't find too many books that focuses on this holiday. The second half leads up to Christmas. The book has a very cozy feel to it. I listened to it because I found out it was the November pick for a book club in which the author herself participated. This is the second book by Nancy Naigle that I've listened to and I continue to enjoy her writing.

This was my audience a few days ago when I was doing things in the kitchen.
