Five for Friday - A Cushy Chair, a Matzah Ball, and a Mug of Popcorn

Happy Friday, friends!

Today I'm participating in five blog hops. The host for Friday 56 is taking a break, so for now, this blog hop will now be hosted by My Head is Full of Books. You can click on the host links below to read the blogs of others who are participating in each blog hop. If you're a blogger, feel free to join through their links!

Question: Where do you like to read the most?

My response: I like to sit on a cushy chair in the living room. However, with a print book, I can only sit there before or after the sun rises because it faces a window and there's a glare on my book.

I'm currently listening to this audiobook, narrated by Dara Rosenberg, but today's excerpts are from the e-book format of The Matzah Ball, by Jean Meltzer.

Here are the first few sentences:
She just needed one more.

Rachel Rubenstein-Goldblatt stared at the collection of miniature Christmas figurines spread across her desk. She owned 236 of the smiling porcelain Santas from the world-famous Holiday Dreams Collection. When her best friend, Mickey, arrived, she would complete that collection with the addition of the coveted Margaritaville Santa.

And here's a teaser from 56%:
"You know what," she said sweetly, apologetically. "Mr. Greenberg is extremely busy today. He was wondering if you wouldn't mind coming back tomorrow."

Jacob forced a smile. "I'll wait."

"But--"

Jacob took a seat in the lobby. Unless his father had a parachute stored under his desk, they were doing the thing today.

The main character, Rachel, lives with chronic fatigue syndrome, which the author herself has. So there is authentic representation. But that's not the only secret she keeps (from most people). What else is she hiding?

This is technically a rom-com that takes place during Hanukkah. However, it addresses some serious topics. The excerpt from 56% is the beginning of something important in this story. You'll have to read the book to find out what happens! You can also come back next week when I post my review.

Here is Fiona advertising a mug of popcorn. This is how I like to eat my popcorn nowadays. It feels cozy to me. Fiona was such a good sport here. I could tell she wanted so badly to steal some popcorn, but she resisted. As for the mug, it's very special to me. It's part of a dish set that my best friend gave me when I first moved into my condo almost 19 years ago. She passed away in 2010.

  1. Fiona looks very interested in the popcorn. I have only had popcorn once. We went to a multi screen cinema and bought some. It was so salty we couldn't eat it and threw it away. I have never tried it since!

    1. I cannot eat movie theater popcorn. It makes me sick. It's VERY different than air-popped at home. At home I use an air popper and when it's done, I add olive oil (or ghee), nutritional yeast, and a little Himalayan salt. It's really good that way! :)

  2. Wow. Your cat has such restraint. I love the whole pose of that photo of the popcorn and the cat.

It sounds like your book has a lot to offer. Enjoy!

    1. Thanks, Anne! Fiona has come a long way, but don't get me wrong. She doesn't always show such restraint. LOL. :-)

  3. Fiona is really staring intently at the popcorn. My girls would have been batting them all around the house. LOL

    1. Oh, believe me. The situation would have been very different if I left her unsupervised. The cats have been known to try to steal and even try to eat my popcorn. :)

  4. I like to read everywhere. There's even a book in the "necessary room."

That mug is big, and beautiful. Your Fiona is also beautiful, although not big. Thank you for joining Feline Friday!
