Question: Will society suffer in the future as a result of the younger generations' lack of reading?
My response: This question is based on the assumption that the younger generation isn't reading much. Is that true? If so, then, yes, it could impact the future. However, I don't think all hope is lost. I say this from experience. I was not much of a reader when I was in school, but I became an avid reader in adulthood.
Today's excerpts are from the e-book format of Murder at Lakeside Library (Lakeside Library Mystery 1), by Holly Danvers.
The road ahead spanned like an endless ribbon leading to nowhere.
And here is an excerpt from 56%:
"Come closer." Julia summoned her with her hand. "Look at this." Julia pulled at a chunk of the log that had come loose and wasn't fully sealed within the chinking. "When I started picking at the fly that was stuck in that white caulking stuff, I noticed the log shift, as if it was loose. I found something hidden in the wall behind the bookshelf."
This is a significant discovery. What do you think it's all about? You'll have to read the book to find out!
I'm currently listening to this audiobook. I'm very close to finishing and I'm really enjoying it. It's a pretty interesting mystery with some unexpected twists and turns. I only have about 52 minutes left to listen and I still don't know the whodunnit. Stay tuned!
Little bit of sibling rivalry going on here. Bell proceeded to smack Fiona, hiss at her, then run away because she knows Fiona is quite capable of retaliating with a vengeance (though that didn't happen this time).
I saw this skink on the wall outside my doctor's office on Thursday. It startled me at first because it's been years since I've seen one and it was moving very fast, but then I thought it was cute.
I haven't read any of the Lakeside Library Mysteries yet. Glad to hear you are enjoying this one.
ReplyDeleteMark, I enjoyed it, but I don't think I'm in a rush to continue the series. It's not a bad start, though. :)
DeleteI do worry about so many aspects of our future. Kids not reading is one of the things I worry about.
ReplyDeleteReading is so important! :)
DeleteNothing wrong with an occasional smack down to keep each other in order. I have never seen a skink.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Exactly! It has been a long time since I've seen a skink...years! :)
DeleteI have that book on my wishlist. It sounds really good and just the kind of mystery I like. Bell and Fiona sound like my Cookie and Oreo. They have that sibling rivalry thing too. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it isn't just my girls, Yvonne. Thank you. You too! :)
DeleteWhat an adorable little skink! Great find :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining us for Nature Friday this week!
xoxo,
Rosy & Sunny
Thank you for hosting the blog hop! I enjoy nature photography. :-)
DeleteIt's not just about reading, it's also, what are they reading? It's an important part of the equation.
ReplyDeleteThe significant finding does sound intriguing, if I get more time I will look for this one.
Skinks are kind of cute, as are our anoles.
Ladies, I think you both know you can behave better than that. You each only have one sister, right? Treat her as special, okay? Thank you for linking up with Feline Friday.
I will definitely share your message with the girls! :)
