Sunday Post 84

Hi everyone! Happy Father's Day to all kinds of Dads!

Through Monday, I am linking with the following:

On the above blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in those blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

We had some pretty decent weather this past week. Thursday and Friday were really hot and humid, but this weekend has been delightful. Next week is supposed to be crazy hot, but no rain is expected. I have a marathon of appointments next week and I'd rather have crazy hot than crazy storms when I have to be out and about, so I'm thankful for that. Not that I enjoy the hot and humid weather...because I don't. But at least it will be tranquil. My appointments are mostly routine, except my dental visit to finally get my permanent crown on Wednesday.

In some ways I had a less crazy week this past week than the previous one, but because of other things that happened, I was not in a good headspace. So I didn't do as much blogging as I had hoped to. I'm better now, but with all of my appointments coming up next week...well, I'll just have to see how it goes and take it one day at a time.

IN THE BOOKS
Click on 2024 Bookish Challenges on the right sidebar to see how I'm doing with this year's goals. I added a mini audiobook challenge that I'm working on in June.

RECENTLY FINISHED
πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„
I listened to the second in the Campers and Criminals series, Deserts, Driving, and Derelicts, written by Tonya Kappes and narrated by Johanna Parker. I wasn't as invested in everything that happened leading up to the murder as I was in the first installment. It's still a delightful series, though!
IN PROGRESS
I'm currently reading Summoning, Skating, and Skulls, the second book in Emily Fluke's Bewitcher's Beach Mystery series. I loved the prequel and the first book in the series. This one has a much more complex mystery and I'm enjoying it as well. Although I didn't post a formal review on my blog, I also loved book 1.5, Squeaks and Spooks. To read some excerpts from Summoning, Skating, and Skulls, click here.
UP NEXT
If I finish Summoning, Skating, and Skulls, I will read the first novella in the Newfound Lake Mystery series, Catch of the Day, by Virginia K. Bennett. This series has been on my radar for a while and I'm excited to finally start it.

My next audiobook listen will be the third in the Campers and Criminals series, Forests, Fishing, and Forgery (Campers and Criminals Mystery 3), written by Tonya Kappes and narrated by Johanna Parker. This one takes place around Labor Day weekend, so it's still summer.
The Campers and Criminals books so far have been pretty short, so I should have time to start my next audiobook this upcoming week. I'll listen to Murder at the Lakeside Library (Lakeside Library Mystery 1), written by Holly Danvers and narrated by Allyson Ryan. Allyson Ryan narrates the Christmas Tree Farm Mysteries, which I love, so I'm looking forward to this one!

ON THE SCREEN
  • Acolyte - The snoozefest continued with episode 3, which was basically a Tale of Two Sisters. We didn't need an entire flashback episode for their story.
  • Psych - Thankfully, I've got Shawn and Gus to keep me entertained. I'm currently almost in the middle of season 5. They are starting to mix it up with different kinds of mysteries to solve, while maintaining the overall vibe. (Keep in mind I started this series with season 4.)
  • Murder, She Wrote - Only two more episodes to go in season 3! I might finish this upcoming week.
  • Tipline Mysteries: Dial 1 for Murder - I think this is one of the stronger mystery premieres on Hallmark this year. I do wish they would stop making new mysteries and focus on expanding on ones that already exist. This is one I definitely want to see more of.
  • Savoring Paris - And this 2024 premiere is one of the stronger destination movies on the Hallmark Channel. Apart from the fact that I have no idea how the main character had enough money to splurge the way she did, it was very enjoyable. I wonder, though, so many Hallmark movies are at least partially filmed in Bulgaria. Why not have some movies set there? Anyway, this movie is based on a book, and after watching the movie I immediately added it to my TBR list.
  • Bridal Wave - I was looking for a light-hearted movie to watch on this day and I found it with this 2015 one. I'm not sure I'd watch it again, but it was nice to see it once.
  • Love at First Dance - I've had this one recorded for a long time and I am so glad I finally watched it on Friday. It was exactly the kind of movie I was looking for. It had the usual tropes, but even the relationship that didn't work out wasn't bad. Everyone was so likeable even if they weren't meant to be together. It just made me feel so happy. It was a rare 5 star movie for me. It is, of course, a Hallmark movie.

  2. The Campers and Criminals series sounds like fun to me. I'm sorry book 2 wasn't as good as the first book...but, for me, that is almost always true.

    Good luck with your crown!

  4. I'm listening to a Christie mystery, Caribbean Mystery, and can't get over the accents of the majors and officers Ms. Marple meets on her trip.

Have a good week. Harvee https://bookdilettante.blogspot.com/

  5. I love the Tonya Kappas series. I'm up to #9. Some books are better than others, like any series. It's been awhile since I listened to them. I have to get back to them. I know what you mean about appointments during rain. I had that last week, but this week is looking much better and I have a couple of appointments again. It will be nice to have them in nice weather. Good luck with yours. Enjoy your books and have a great week!

  9. I just got back from a vacation where the weather was particularly hot and humid and I wasn't expecting it. I hate humid weather. I was one big sweaty blog the whole time. I hope you don't experience that with your weather.

  12. I am glad you had a nice weekend weather wise and I hope you are feeling better after last week. There were a few days last week I didn't feel quite like myself either. I hope your appointments go well, including getting the crown put in! My daughter has an appointment Thursday with the orthodontist later this week. She's dreading it. We're both hoping she won't need to adjust the expander in the roof of her mouth more. She minds the braces less than she does that expander. She's stuck with it for six months. :-( I need to get back to my cozy mystery reading. I have so many on my TBR! I'm behind in several series. I hope you have a great week, Meezan!
