Felines and Fill-ins Week 12

Hello friends!

I am participating in three blog hops today. You can click on the host links below to read the blogs of others who are participating, and if you're a blogger, feel free to join through the links below!

QuestionDo you like writing long or short reviews?

My response: Hmmm...good question. I would have to say somewhere in between. Being short and concise saves time for the reader and can be highly effective, but if the review is too short then as a writer I can't get my point across. I like to explain my reasons for liking or not liking books and movies without being too long-winded. I feel the same when I read reviews, so I guess I write what I like to read. I just did a word count on some of my reviews and the average length is about 600-700 words.

This reminds me of the 100-word story. I love the idea of this, but I have not yet mastered the art of being that concise and still effective.

FRIENDLY FILL-INS, hosted by Four-Legged Furballs and 15 and Meowing
1. On holidays, I usually have a second serving of all the high carb side dishes such as potatoes, mac and cheese, and dressing (or do you call it stuffing?). I don't eat like that on a regular basis, so I feel good about indulging on special occasions.

2. I am thankful for Bell and Fiona. Of course my gratitude list is endless, but they are new to me this year. They drive me crazy 😳, but I wouldn't want it any other way.

3. I would like to invite all of my fellow cozy mystery readers over for a feast. There are so many, I would have to rent a large hall or we could eat outside in a park during one of the warmer months. I think we would have some fun and lively discussions about all the cozies we've read, while indulging in our favorite dishes from some of the books. It would be pot luck, so everyone could bring their favorite dish or dishes. (I sincerely hope this happens someday.)

4.  Everything I went through at work in 2009-2010  was a blessing in disguise.

A few weeks ago I told you that Bell likes to snuggle on my (their?) Snuggie blanket, but that Fiona clearly prefers to just sleep on the couch with no blanket. Well, Fiona must have read that blog post and decided she was going to prove me wrong. She now loves the Snuggie, too! Once in a while they snuggle on the Snuggie together, but mostly they prefer to take turns. Here is Fiona sleeping on it.

  1. My reviews have become shorter since I started doing them for a magazine. They require theirs to be 300 words or less, so mine are usually that length even when I'm not reviewing for them. 1. 300 words or less seems like quite a challenge, but I think a limit can be helpful in fine tuning a review. :-)

  2. I like that. I used to do short reviews just to give a flavour, then I started participating in Blog Tours and upped my game. I tend to write just under a page now.

    Have a great weekend!

  5. Hi...OMCs I call it dressing...very few people do nowadays. Typically don't stuff our turkey with it.
Dressing is baked after the turkey is cooked. Yay. Fiona you are a beautiful Gray Lady with a darling velvety nose.
I'm very partial to Gray Ladies. My angel Madi was charcoal Gray.
Thank you for visiting hugs Cecilia

    1. Thank you, Cecilia. I sometimes call her Pink Lady (as in the movie Grease...lol) because Fiona's nose is slightly pink. I'll have to get a better picture of her nose. :-)

    1. Yep, she is! It's actually supposed to be my Snuggie, though. It was a Christmas gift last year long before I adopted Bell and Fiona. LOL. :-)

  9. I don't know how to do a word count on a WIX blog post - guess that's something to look into. Not that it REALLY matters....I tend to write till I don't have anything more to say. :) It's my first time joining the BBH and I'll be back. :)

    1. Terrie, I just did a Google search for word counts and I found a free site where all I have to do is copy and paste the text of my blog post into it and it will give me a word count. Glad you'll be back! :-)
