Murder, She Baked: A Plum Pudding Mystery (2015)

πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„

A Plum Pudding Mystery is the second movie in the Murder, She Baked Hallmark series. It is based on the book, Plum Pudding Murder, by Joanne Fluke. It is the 12th installment in the book series. It takes place during the Christmas season, hence the name (which is a popular Christmastime dessert in some countries). In the movie, we learn (well, at least I learn) that plum pudding does NOT usually contain plums. Interesting fun fact!

In this second installment in the movie series, Hannah Swensen, owner of The Cookie Jar, finds another dead body. Hannah once again sets out to do her own investigating and solve this mystery, much to the dismay of the the authorities.

This movie follows the same basic formula as A Chocolate Chip Cookie Mystery, but the journey is very different and equally enjoyable. There are several viable suspects and I was surprised in the end. The set and scenery are eye candy for this snow and cozy mystery lover. There is some light romance that carried over from the first movie, but it does not overpower the mystery. I have now seen this movie three times and I enjoyed it the same each time.

There is also a touch (and I do mean a small touch) of horror throughout the movie with the "crazy elf". It was more comical than it was scary, though if I encountered something like that in real life, my friends across the world would probably hear me screaming.

At the end of this movie, someone makes a big surprise announcement. You will have to watch to find out what that it is, but it's a good lead-in to the next movie. Overall, I really enjoyed this movie. It's the perfect cozy mystery to watch at Christmas time. Although the subplots continue through the series, it is a self-contained mystery. The movies are similar in some ways to the books, but there are also a lot of differences. If you don't try to compare them and just watch the movies as separate forms of entertainment, I think you will enjoy them.

    1. Yvonne, I watched all of the movies before reading any of the books. Since you enjoyed the movies, I think you'll enjoy the series. The books are better, as is usually the case. :-)
