Sunday Post 70

Happy Weekend, friends!

Through Monday, I am linking with the following:

On the above blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

Last week I bought a new phone and this week I will be moving into a new desktop computer. I didn't plan to make all these tech changes at once, but that's the way everything is happening. Hopefully the transition will go smoothly. I think my current desktop computer is seven years old, so it's been a while.

It was a busy week, but I did finish my taxes. YAY! It always feels good when that's done for the year. This coming week will be another busy one with a few appointments mixed in with my regular routines. Hopefully by the end of the week, everything will settle down. Often times it's not the physical aspect of having so much to do that gets to me, it's the mental aspect. My brain can't handle too many things at once.

RECENTLY FINISHED
🍄🍄🍄
On Monday, which was National Fairy Tale Day, I read
Seriously, Cinderella is SO Annoying!: The Story of Cinderella as Told by the Wicked Stepmother, by Trisha Speed Shaskan. Cinderella and all its adaptations and retellings are my favorite in the world of fairy tales. I had high hopes that this would be a really funny and entertaining book, but it fell flat for me. I did enjoy the illustrations, though.
🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄
I read Betrayal in the Bay (Claire O'Keefe Mystery 2), by Cindy Quayle and I loved it! You can read some excerpts here and you can read my full review here.
IN PROGRESS
I'm currently listening to the audiobook for Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries (Emily Wilde 1), by Heather Fawcett. It is impeccably narrated by Ell Potter and Michael Dodds. I'm not always a fan of dual narration, but it's really well done in this audiobook. I'm not yet halfway through, so it will likely take me most of next week to finish it.
I started reading my first ever graphic novel, thanks to Manga. The book I'm reading is Magus of the Library, Vol. 1, by Mitzu Izumi . I think I picked a gem to start with. I'm really enjoying it. Although these don't take long to read, I'm taking my time with it while I'm juggling so many other things right now. Also, I just adore the cover.
UP NEXT
This week, I'm also going to start reading a novella by Tonya Kappes called Four Leaf Felony (Holiday Cozy Mystery 1). I've had this in my Kindle library even before I bought a Kindle device. I was able to grab it for free last year. I've been saving it until now to read it since St. Patrick's Day is this month. Being a novella, I think I'll be able to finish it by the end of the week while juggling other things. We'll see how that goes.
ON TELEVISON
  • Ever After - This is the 1998 version of Cinderella that I watched on National Fairy Tale Day for the first time. It was good for what it was meant to be, but I missed the magic. There was none of that in this movie. It had a much more serious tone.
  • Crime Time: Freefall - This was Hallmark's latest mystery. It was okay, but definitely not a favorite of mine. The more comedic mysteries, which this one was, are never my favorite. I like them cozy, but not too comical.
  • Sense and Sensibility - WOW!!! I LOVED Hallmark's adaptation of Sense and Sensibility! I have not read the book and before this adaptation, I had never seen any of the movies. This movie made me want to read the book. Of course, the book will be better, but for a less than 90 minute movie, this adaptation was so good!! This is my favorite new movie of the year so far.
  • Murder, She Wrote - I watched one more episode in season 3, which I enjoyed. I still have a hard time identifying the culprits in this show, which I guess is a testament to how good it is (or how much my sleuthing skills are lacking).
  • The Way Home - After seeing the previews, I was worried I wasn't going to enjoy last Sunday's episode, but I actually did. I'm very interested in where the story is going, even if the excitement I had for it in season 1 isn't there as much anymore.
  • Friends - I'm in the middle of season 8 where a twist I didn't like is beginning to happen.

    1. Lol Cindy. I went through my Goodreads list and my Kindle to find St. Patrick's Day books. The storyline in Friends that I'm referring to is pretty short-lived, thankfully. :-)

  4. I love the idea of National Fairy Tale Day. Somehow I missed that, but I actually read a book that day that fits the theme! Here is a little about it: https://readerbuzz.blogspot.com/2024/03/princess-floralinda-and-forty-flight.html

I haven't done taxes yet, but I need to start working on that.

    1. I hope you enjoy the Heather Fawcett book, Greg. I think I'll be reading the second one eventually too. The 1995 movie adaptation of Sense and Sensibility is coming on t.v. soon, so I'll record it and give it a try. :-)

  6. I like any Jane Austen movie, I am not sure if I've watched Sense and Sensibility though. Ah an new phone and computer. My last computer went seven years and then died, they probably make them do that or something.

    1. Kathryn, my computer is about seven years old. It's working okay right now, but next year it won't be compatible with some things. So it's time for a change. :)

  7. I think sometimes new phones are a worse transition than new computers. Looks like you have lots of good reads ahead.

  8. That is a lot of tech changes. If it lasted seven years, you desktop provided good service for a long, long time. Your books sound good too. I read both Emily Wilde books and enjoyed them. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  11. I hope the new phone and desk top are working well for you! It can be fun upgrading technology but it also can be quite the chore getting everything set up. I am so glad you are enjoying Magus of the Library! I love that manga series. The artwork is so beautiful and I really like the world building. I hope you continue to enjoy it! Have a great week and happy reading!

  12. As soon as I finished this first Emily Wilde book, I downloaded the sequel. I listened to it twice before having to return it to my library. In some ways it's even better than the first!
