The Friday Six 10

Happy Weekend!

I'm a day late, but today I'm participating in six blog hops.  You can click on the host links below to find the blogs of others who are participating in each blog hop. If you're a blogger, feel free to join through the host links.

Question: What are your thoughts on book-to-book comparisons (for example, It's the next Harry Potter")?

My response: I think it's fine today say, "If you like [insert book title and author here], then try [insert a recommendation here]. However, each book is unique in its own way, so I don't say things like, "It's the next..."

Today's excerpts are from the e-book format of The Summer of Yes, by Courtney Walsh.

Here is the beginning:
Click. Drip.
Whirrrrr.
Click. Drip.
My eyes flutter open, from murky to gray to light and back to gray, like the shutter on a camera taking pictures in the dark.

And here is an excerpt from 56%:
I say his name on a slow exhale.
Georgina looks at me, then follows my gaze toward the door.
Their eyes meet, and I hold my breath. He glances at me, and I give him the slightest smile. At that, he moves toward our table.
They're quiet for a moment, both of them frozen, and then Hayden draws in a deep breath. "Hey."
Georgina's face softens. She smiles at him and her voice cracks slightly as she says, "Hey."

The excerpt from 56% is a turning point in the book. I'm about 70% done and I'm enjoying it. Stay tuned for my full review coming soon!

Bell likes to perform acrobatics on the Bell tower after she eats dinner. (I usually close the blinds at this time of year in the evening for about an hour because the sunset is so overpowering. Most of the time, the blinds are open.)

This picture of a hydrangea is from August 2021. I really miss taking my walks. It's just been too hot and humid for me this summer. I'm looking forward to fall.

  1. I hate it when publishers advertise a book by comparing it to a book which is clearly a classic or super popular and that one isn't. Thanks for participating in Friday56.

  3. I agree, it's kind of silly to say, "this is the next..." or "it's the new..."

Bell needs to compete in the Cat Olympics. Thanks for linking up with Feline Friday!
