Sunday Post 16

Welcome to another edition of my Sunday Post, friends!

It's been a heavy week. On Monday I found out a friend I knew since elementary school passed away. I found out through a mutual friend. I'm not sure exactly what happened. We've hardly talked at all over the past several years, but he was a part of my life and I will miss him, along with other friends who have passed.

Today is my best friend's birthday. We were friends since pre-school and remained close into adulthood. She passed away in 2010. She is the reason I became interested in reading, specifically cozy mysteries. (To read more about that, click here or on Why Cozies? on the right sidebar.) This weekend I'm celebrating her life and our once in a lifetime friendship.

Have you ever had a croffle? I believe it was first created in South Korea. The outside is like a waffle and the inside is like a croissant. Mine was topped with a cookie, cream, and salted caramel. It was amazing...but so very rich and sweet! Yesterday was my first time having one. I enjoyed it, but I have had enough for a while!

Let's talk books.

Today I am once again linking with Reading Reality, who hosts Stacking the Shelves and The Book Date, who hosts It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (This is posted on Mondays, so be sure to check the link then.)  On their blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger you can join too!

I'll be reading Chapters 6 and 7 in the e-book version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, by J.K. Rowling this week. I'm looking forward to getting into the meat of the book.

I finished reading Cheddar Late Than Dead (Grilled Cheese Mystery 3), by Linda Reilly. This was the first print book I started and finished this year and let me tell you, it was so good! The series has just gotten better and better with each book. I will be posting my review on Monday, one day before its release date. I hope you'll stop by then!

Assault and Pepper (Spice Shop Mystery 1), by Leslie Budewitz, was my audiobook listen last week. It is narrated by Dara Rosenberg and I really enjoyed it! I'd like to read it in print before I post my review. (The fact that I want to read it after listening to it tells you how much I liked it!) I'll do that in the fall, which is when it takes place.

My audiobook listen for this week is Eclair and Present Danger (Emergency Dessert Squad 1), written by Laura Bradford and narrated by Vanessa Daniels. This is for The Cozy Mystery Book Club Reread, though it will be my first experience with it.

The print book I'll be reading this week is Buried in the Stacks (Haunted Library Mystery 3), by Allison Brook. I'm a huge fan of the first two in this series, so I'm really looking forward to diving into this one.

Okay, so I had started reading Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One, by Joe Dispenza, for a book club. I've come to the realization that this is not the right time for me to read it. I'm in a place right now where I need lighter reads. I'm not completely abandoning the book. I'm just putting it off until it feels like the right time to read it. I think it's important to know when to stretch yourself and try something different and when it's okay to revert back into your comfort zone. Right now I need comfort reads, which for me are mostly cozy mysteries.

I am also participating in another blog hop today - Sunday Post, hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. With this blog hop, I'll recap what I've posted over the couple of weeks. If you missed a post you want to read, just click on the link below.
  • Sunday Post 01/22- What I've been reading and watching
  • Mystery Monday 01/23 - Review of Curious Caterer: Dying for Chocolate (2022 Hallmark movie)
  • Top Ten Tuesday 01/24 - New-to-me Authors I Discovered in 2022

  • Puzzle  01/28 - In Memory of my best friend on her birthday and in honor of National Puzzle Day (both of which are today, 1/29)
As for television highlights, I watched the second episode of The Way Home. I'm definitely going to continue watching the series. I'll write more about movies on Tuesday when I share the full list of movies I watched in January.

Have a great week and I'll see you in the blogosphere!

    1. Thank you, Bonnie. If there's a place near you that sells bubble tea, they might have it there. That's where I got mine. Good luck! :-)

  9. So glad you enjoyed Assault & Pepper! Dara has continued to narrate the series -- #6, Peppermint Barked, came out last summer, and #7 will be out in July -- and I love her, too! I often say cozies are "the comfort food of the mystery world -- and who doesn't love a bowl of mac 'n cheese now and then?" Wishing you much comfort as you grieve your friends.

    1. Thank you so much, Leslie. I am looking forward to diving deeper into the series! I agree, cozies definitely are the comfort food of the mystery world. Good analogy to the mac 'n cheese! :-)

  10. Please accept my condolences for the loss of your friend.

There are times when a heavy heart means heavy reading is just not in the cards.
