Sunday Post 39

Hello, friends!

On these blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

Thank you to everyone who advised me on how to see lists of books that are available on Kindle for free. I am now receiving daily emails that are so much easier to go through! I had been receiving recs for just cozy mysteries, but yesterday I also signed up for suggestions on women's fiction. I'm not sure how long I'll keep the latter because there aren't too many on that list that interest me so far. I am surprised by how many really good books there are available for free. Many of them have thousands of 4-5 star reviews! I'll share with you the freebies I download as I read them.

🍄🍄🍄🍄
I listened to Hercule Poirot's Christmas, written by Agatha Christie and narrated by Hugh Fraser. Some language doesn't stand the test of time. Except for the frequent use of the word "invalid", I enjoyed it.  Although it doesn't have a lot of references to a Christmasy atmosphere, it's a great mystery with an ending that surprised me. I'm finding that I like the Hercule Poirot series more than the Miss Marple series. Do you have a preference?

I finished reading #FollowMe for Murder (Trending Topic Mystery 1), by Sarah E. Burr. I will post a review during the week, but for now I'll say that this is a strong start to the series. I'm looking forward to reading the second one. I won signed copies of both of these books in April on the date that the second one was released.
IN PROGRESS
Letters from Cats
, by Stacey Ritz, is one of the freebies I downloaded on Kindle last week. I could easily finish this e-book in one sitting, but because it's so deep, I'm reading just a little bit each day. It's a compilation of short letters from cats and I've been reading one or two letters each day.

UP NEXT
I have been wanting to read A Christmas Candy Killing (Killer Chocolate Mystery 1), by Christina Romeril, since last Christmas, but my library didn't have it until this year. So I figured I'd read it during Christmas in July. I can't wait to get started on Monday!
I read Survival of the Fritters (Deputy Donut Mystery 1), by Ginger Bolton, earlier this year. I'm going to listen to the audiobook format this week to refresh my memory because this is the July pick for The Cozy Mystery Book Club. I do remember that I liked it a lot!
In keeping with the Christmas in July theme, I'm going to read A Dash of Magic, by Daryl Wood Gerber. I downloaded this for free on Prolific Works using a link she recently shared. It isn't on Goodreads and I wasn't able to download a picture of the cover.

ON TELEVISON
  • Once Upon a Time - I finished Season 2. I may watch a few episodes of Season 3 just to see where the show is going. Tinker Bell is my favorite Disney character and I know she's coming up soon. However, I'm losing interest in the show, so I don't know how much I'll watch moving forward.
  • Secret Invasion - I'm keeping up with the weekly episodes simply because I don't want to miss anything that might be important in future Marvel movies. However, this is another show in which I'm losing interest.
  • What If...? - I can't believe it took me so long to get on board with this show. The animation is flawless and the re-imagined stories are thought-provoking. Some of the episodes cause me to reflect on the what ifs of my own life. Some episodes are better than others, but I think they're all really good so far. The one I watched last week was about Dr. Strange. It's my favorite episode so far. This is the kind of series that I think can successfully last several seasons.
  • Signed, Sealed, Delivered - I'm now watching about one movie each week. I really like this series! I will review the entire series after I've seen all of the movies.
  • Christmas in July - I have sooooooooooo many Hallmark Christmas movies, as well as a few GAC Christmas movies, recorded. I watched a few last week, which were okay. I'm hoping to see some better ones this week.

  3. I'm glad you got so many good ideas for freebies. I've been overwhelmed with free books lately, and so I've had to focus on making a list of what I already have and plowing through that.

I can think of several people who would enjoy Letters from Cats.

  6. I read a cozy mystery for the first time in a while, for the July in Paris 2023 Challenge. It was quite good. I also listened to another and found the narrator perfect, in Mastering the Art of French Murder. Enjoy your cozy books!

  7. Lists of free books are good, but I have too many already. I've been trashing The Fussy Librarian unread since I don't want to be tempted. Your cozies look good. I read lots of them but mostly as review copies from NetGalley. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  9. I didn't see Letters from Cats. I just went over to Amazon and it's still free, so I grabbed it. Thank you :) I watched Once Upon A Time and enjoyed the first season or so, then I got bored too. I went back towards the end to see how it all ended. I hope you enjoy all of your books. Have a great week!

  10. I have to stay far away from free books because I can't control myself. I'd download all of them and then get overwhelmed. I hope you're having a great week!

    1. Thanks, Aj. I'm pretty selective about which ones I download. Let's see how long that lasts! :-)
