Sunday Post 38

Hello, friends!

On these blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

I hope everyone had a good week and a good holiday. It was too hot for me to sit outside and watch the community parade and county fireworks (the latter of which I rarely do anyway). My holiday weekend consisted of listening to an audiobook and watching a couple of 4th of July-themed Hallmark movies.

I did something today I thought I'd never do. I downloaded the Kindle app.😮 Earth-shattering, I know. I'll give you a moment to catch your breath...

Yeah, so I saw that a set of three cozy mysteries were available for free on the Kindle app (not Kindle Unlimited, just the regular app). So I downloaded the Kindle app, which in itself is a huge accomplishment. I'm surprised I was able to clear enough space on my phone for it to handle another app. (It's actually the pictures of my cats that are taking up most of the storage, but of course I'd rather delete other stuff.)  I then proceeded down the Kindle rabbit hole and didn't emerge out of it until I ended up with six free e-books. I guess that's not too bad.

There are A LOT of free e-books available on the Kindle app, so my question for you is this:

Is there an easy way to find free e-books that match my interests (which, most of the time, are cozy mysteries)?

I only want the free ones because I rarely read e-books. They are nice to have, though, for you know...book emergencies and such. I subscribed to the daily email with deals and I'm hoping that is tailored to my interests based on my browsing history and downloads. But is there another way to easily browse on the site or app for what I want ? Any guidance or tips you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

RECENTLY FINISHED
🍄🍄🍄
I finished reading the ARC for Not If I Date You First, by Krysti Meyer. This is a closed-door YA romcom. Release date for this book is on Tuesday, so look for my review on that day.

I hadn't planned on listening to an audiobook last week, but I was in the mood for a July 4th-themed one. So I listened to Murder on Parade (Murder, She Wrote 29), by Jessica Fletcher and Donald Bain. I had been wanting to start reading the Murder, She Wrote series and since it seems it does not necessarily need to be read in order, I decided to listen to this one. I did lose track of some of the characters along the way, but other than that, it was great.
IN PROGRESS
I started reading #FollowMe for Murder (Trending Topic Mystery 1), by Sarah E. Burr and I'm really enjoying it! I'm planning to finish it in a few days.
UP NEXT
After I finish the first in this series, I'm going to read the follow-up, #TagMe for Murder. I don't often read books in series back-to-back, but I want to read both of these this summer.
I am all about Christmas in July right now and I was really happy when Hercule Poirot's Christmas (Hercule Poirot 20), by Agatha Christie, became available on Libby. I had requested the audiobook a few weeks ago, but there was a waiting list. I will start listening to this on Monday. I'm glad this is another series that can be read out of order.
Letters from Cats
, by Stacey Ritz, is one of the freebies I downloaded on Kindle. I'm really curious about this book, so I'll dive into it this week. I am sure Bell and Fiona will be by my side as I read it.
ADDITIONAL FREE KINDLE DOWNLOADS (Please always check the price before downloading. They are subject to change at any time.) I'm not sure when I'll read these, but I'm glad to have them in my collection.

Always With You, by Fiona Grace, and Summer in Sweetbriar Cove, by Melody Grace, look like nice, relaxing summery reads. I think I have heard of Fiona Grace.

Travel Can Be Murder, Jennifer S. Alderson, is a set of three cozies. This was the first one I downloaded on Kindle. Three travel-themed cozies for free and they are 1-3 in the series! There are more in the series that were not free, so I didn't download those.

I can't believe Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Collection, by Arthur Conan Doyle, was available to download for free! I already have a huge book of Sherlock Holmes stories, but I'm glad to also have this one on Kindle.

I'm not sure what I'll find in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, but it looks like a good find.

I'm almost done watching Season 2 of Once Upon a Time. I think I will take a break from this show after this season is done.

I also watched the third episode of Secret Invasion. Three more weeks...

One of my life goals is to watch all Pride and Prejudice adaptations, no matter how loose they are. This was the movie that made me realize how much I love all things cozy. I watched it and read the book for the first time just a couple years ago.

So, I started watching The Lizzie Bennet Diaries on YouTube. This series aired 11 years ago, but I have never seen it. It's a vlog-style, silly, modern, and unique take on the classic, Pride and Prejudice.  I like that the episodes are very short (and highly entertaining, in my opinion). It's a nice filler when I only have a short amount of time.

Except for two July 4th-themed movies, I've been watching Christmas in July Hallmark movies. My DVR is all decked out for the holiday! I haven't yet watched the premiere that aired on Saturday, but I will on Monday.

What's up in your world? Let me know if you have seen any of the above movies or series, or read any of the books I mentioned.

And please do give me some tips on how to find Kindle books that appeal to me if there's an easy way to do so!

  1. There's a couple of email subscriptions for daily free kindle books but I usually check centlessbooks.com as they have a nice listing. Also I follow A Girl and her Dog on Facebook and she posts a lot daily. I love copies with animal sidekicks and have found some that way.

  2. There's always so much to read and so little time, i haven't jumped fully on the e-reader bandwagon yet. Maybe someday.

I do hope we all get a break in the heat.

    1. I'm not fully there yet either, but some books are easier to obtain that way. Yes, we need a break from the heat (and humidity)! :)

  3. I resisted and resisted and resisted, but finally I took the step of downloading a Kindle app on my phone. And, oh my, yes, there are free and inexpensive books. Someone told me one time that if you wait long enough, every book will eventually go on sale. I now have a ridiculous 750 ebooks on my app---I had to buy a Kindle to hold everything!

It's cooled off a little here with the arrival of rain. If it would only cool down at night...

  4. I don't have the Kindle App but have been curious about it. I just use my regular Kindle for most of my reading. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. Kathy, I think if you have a separate Kindle device, you don't need to download the app. At least that's what it seems like. :-)

  5. I love my Kindle and e-books. I get a ton of freebies. I usually find out about them through email newsletters. When you join, you tell them which genres you are interested in. This is one site for cozy mysteries: https://lovekissedcozies.com/ You can either sign up for their bargain cozy mysteries or free cozy mysteries newsletters. I get both. There's also BookGorilla.com and you can choose your genre preferences with them too. I hope this helps.

  7. If you like reading books in advance of publication, NetGalley offers ARCs or advance readers copies of books to be published. They are free if you persuade the publishers you will read and review on the NetGalley site and on other social media platforms. You just apply to NetGalley, fill out their application form, and then choose from books, by publishers, by most requested books, by newly arrived books, by genre or category of books, etc. There is even a Read Now category which allows you to read books immediately, without prior publisher approval.

Most of the books on my blog (reviews and features) are from NetGalley. Good luck.

    1. Thank you for the info. I haven't joined those sites for two reasons - one is I prefer to read print books most of the time and the second reason is it would be too much pressure for me to review the books by a certain date, except for once in a while. Maybe one day, but I'm not ready for that right now. :-)
