Sunday Post 63

Hi everyone!

Through Monday, I am linking with the following:

On these blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

I had a pretty good week. On Saturday, I had an early morning appointment to get some routine lab work done. I had to fast and I wasn't sure if I would make it without eating before the appointment, but I did. Not only was I able to fast until after the appointment, but when I got home I was able to take my regular walk (about 30 minutes), do a few things at home, and then finally have breakfast. Sometimes I do amaze myself.

It felt so good to get out early (9 a.m.) for a walk. I love morning walks. Earlier is even better, but 9:00 wasn't bad. We had some rain and then high winds, but there was a small window of time when neither was happening and that's when I snuck in a walk. I just wish we would get some snow. It was looking like we might get some on Tuesday, but the predicted amount has decreased to only an inch or two. Still, that will be more than last year, so I guess that's good.

I feel like I'm moving up in the book world. Since I've had Cocoa (I feel like I always need to explain that's the name I gave my Kindle), I've thought about joining NetGalley. I hesitated because I already own so many books I'm planning to read soon and there really was no need for me to add to that growing list. However, I found out an upcoming release would be available on NetGalley soon and I know I want to read that book. Since I have no history with NetGalley, I figured my chances of my request being fulfilled were pretty low. But I wanted to try anyway. To my surprise and delight, the book was available the very next day on NetGalley as a "Read Now"! Woohoo!!!  So I grabbed it. (In case you're wondering, the book is DM Me for Murder, by Sarah E. Burr. It's the third book in her Trending Topic series. She's pretty much an auto-read author for me.) I will probably read it in the next few weeks.

IN THE BOOKS
I finally signed up for the 2024 challenges I'm participating in. Click on 2024 Bookish Challenges on the right sidebar to see what my goals are. I added a new challenge this year.

RECENTLY FINISHED
🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄
I read Choosing Love (Mapleton 0.5), by Leah Dobrinska, and I loved it! I will post my full spoiler-free review this week (probably on Tuesday). I hope you'll come back and read it. In the meantime, you can read some excerpts here.

IN PROGRESS
I'm still reading
The Mystery of Mrs. Christie, by Marie Benedict. I keep getting distracted by other books, which is why it's taking me so long to finish it. I probably need to stop posting it until I get it done!
I'm listening to Pride and Prejudice, written by Jane Austen and narrated by Kate Kellgren. I'm about 30% done. I would have finished by now, but I've also been listening to podcasts. I think I'll finish listening to this audiobook by the end of this week. That's the plan anyway!
I started listening to Pride, Prejudice, and Poison (Jane Austen Society Mystery 1), by Elizabeth Blake. It happened purely by coincidence that another book club I'm in is reading this book now. It's so fun to read it alongside Pride and Prejudice. There are many references to the original book.
UP NEXT
After I finish listening to Pride and Prejudice, I'm going to listen to #TagMe for Murder (Trending Topic 2), by Sarah E. Burr. This book has been on my radar for so long and now that I have an ARC for book three, I want to finally listen to it.
ON TELEVISON
  • June in January - This is a Hallmark movie from 2014. It started out a little slow, but I ended up really liking it. I would have liked to see more snow in it, though. They should have fully embraced the idea of a January wedding.
  • Cut, Color, Murder - I have watched this 2022 Hallmark mystery a few times, each with the intention of posting my review. It was about to expire on my DVR, so I figured it was time. I really enjoyed it and I don't know why it took me so long to post my review. You can read my review here.
  • The Perfect Pairing - This is a 2022 Hallmark winter movie that I've been meaning to watch for a while. It was pretty good.
  • Snowkissed - This was a 2021 Hallmark winter movie. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this one. I wasn't crazy about the main characters, which made it it difficult to connect with the movie overall.
  • Snowcoming  - This was a 2019 Hallmark winter movie that I really enjoyed. I love when childhood/high school friends reconnect, find that they've changed for the better, and realize they were meant for each other after all. They maintain their playfulness, but they're better able to communicate now as adults. It's one of my favorite romance tropes.
  • The Way Home - Season 2 premieres on The Hallmark Channel tonight!!! I've been re -watching season 1 and loving it as much as I did the first two times I watched it. I have two more episodes to go in the first season and I'll watch the first episode in season 2 on Monday. I cannot wait!!! You can read my season one review here.

  2. We're getting a ton of snow here, you can have some if you want. :) Although I wouldn't wish it on anyone, it's the heavy wet variety and everything's a mess.

Pride, Prejudice and Poison look fun :)

  7. Yay for being able to get a book you wanted to read on Net Galley. I have been on there for years, but never utilized it until around 2019, 2020. Last year I really cut back and it has been MONTHS since I have requested anything. I am really trying to focus on my own books. We'll see how long that lasts, LOL! Have a great week!

  9. I totally understand about the fasting. Some days I can fast until supper no problem and other days I need to eat right when I wake up because I feel famished. I'm glad you were able to get through your fasting with no problem this time.

    1. Holding off until dinner would be quite the challenge for me, but many days I can wait until lunch time. Other days, I need a snack even before breakfast. Lol. :-)

  13. I just watched the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice for a Jane Austen blog feature we are doing on my and another blogger's blog. We are watching movie adaptations of her books, which I haven't read but I hope to read Pride and Prejudice soon. The cozy mystery mentioning it sounds like a good one. I have to remember to check your blog for cozy mystery suggestions. :)

    1. Lisa, and I have to check your blog for the Jane Austen content! I think it's good that you watched the movie before reading the book. That's what I did too. I liked the 2005 movie, but the 1995 mini series is the absolute best adaptation in my opinion. :-)

  15. Netgalley is a slippery slope LOL

Wishing you a great reading week

  16. Congrats on getting your first book from NetGalley. It's a great resource for books. Glad you found a window to walk. We're too slippery underfoot since out snow was preceded by freezing drizzle and to cold here to go outdoors unless it is essential. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
