Sunday Post 67

Happy Weekend, friends!

Through Monday, I am linking with the following:

On the above blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

Where did winter go? I don't know what the temperature was here today, but it was warm enough to keep the balcony door open all day. We may get a few snowflakes this upcoming week, but it will be mostly rain.

What are you doing for the super bowl? I'll be having dinner with my family, but I'm only going to stay until right after halftime. I don't have a preference who wins and I'd rather get my sleep. Otherwise, I'll be miserable on Monday.

My Phony Valentine
(Holidays with Hart 1), by Courtney Walsh, is exactly what I look for in a romcom. It's like a Hallmark movie in the form of a book, but with more depth. This one had the added bonus (for me) of a hockey player main character. I also appreciated the disability representation. I already pre-ordered the next one, My Lucky Charm, which releases in March. She also writes romance and women's fiction. I want to check those out as well.

IN PROGRESS
I plan to finish reading an e-ARC for DM Me for Murder (Trending Topic 3), by Sarah E. Burr, in the next couple of days. Release day for this book is this Tuesday, February 13th. My goal is to have my review published that day.
UP NEXT
I'm planning to start reading an e-ARC of Meows and Murder (Chatty Cat Mystery 2), by Elle Wren Burke next. This one also releases on Tuesday, February 13th. I loved the first one in this series, Purrs and Poison, and I'm really looking forward to the second installment.
I looked up a list of Valentine-themed cozy mysteries and I was so excited to see that Jenn McKinlay's Buttercream Bump Off falls into this category. It happens to be the second installment in her Cupcake Bakery series and I just recently listened to the first one. So I will listen to this second one this week.
Also by Jenn McKinlay is Royal Valentine (Museum of Literature Romance 1). This is a novella, so I should have time to listen to this one as well this upcoming week.
ON TELEVISON
  • Guilded Newport Mysteries: Murder at the Breakers- Hallmark tried something new with this historical mystery, which is based on the book by the same name, by Alyssa Maxwell. I have not read any books in this series, but I want to after seeing this movie.
  • Paging Mr. Darcy - This is my favorite Hallmark movie of the year so far and it's the best one the network has ever done that was inspired by Pride and Prejudice. It isn't necessary to be a fan of Pride and Prejudice in order to enjoy it, but it does help to be familiar with it. I have never seen Will Kemp in a better role. He makes a wonderful Mr. Darcy. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the Jane Austen-inspired Hallmark movies this month.
  • The Marvels - I know the reviews for this movie were not good, but I wanted to watch it anyway. Unfortunately, I agree with the negative reviews. I loved Kamala Khan in the Ms. Marvel series, but the character did a bit too much fangirling in this movie. I didn't get a superhero vibe from her. Besides that, the movie was a bit chaotic. My favorite scene, by far, was the one with all the flerkittens. That scene was hilarious. I was laughing so much to the point of tears!
  • A Valentine's Match - This is a Hallmark movie from four years ago that I had not seen. Luke McFarlane and Bethany Joy Lenz are two of my favorite Hallmark stars. It was a pretty cute movie - what you would expect from a Hallmark romcom.
  • Friends - I'm almost at the end of season 7. There's a lot of wedding talk and preparations in the works.
  • The Way Home - This most recent one was my least favorite episode of this entire show so far. They are introducing too many new characters and not developing them enough. I am also not a fan of the darker direction in which this season seems to be heading. Still, I'm curious to see how it will all unfold. There will be no new episode this weekend due to the Super Bowl.
  • Murder, She Wrote - I watched a few more episodes in season 3. I was finally able to identify the killer in one of these episodes, though I didn't know the details of how it would all unfold. I'm still enjoying this series immensely.
WEEKLY BLOG RECAP
I didn't get as much posted this past week as I had hoped to, but there's always this coming week, right?!

Have a great week!

  1. I looked up Valentine books to read this month too! I enjoyed Royal Valentine when I read it last year πŸ€”

I prefer sleep over anything although with a 7 month old who doesn't sleep through the night yet sleep has been non existent for a while now!

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you, Emily. Good to know you enjoyed Royal Valentine. I can imagine how tough it is for you to get sleep right now. :)

  2. It has been warm here, but that's normal for us. We are starting to get our garden ready. I can hear my male Cardinal right now. Spring is coming.

It's fun to read seasonally. I'd hoped to read a light romance this week, but nothing has popped up.

    1. I'm pretty much a seasonal reader year-round, unless I'm reading an ARC. Enjoy the spring weather! :)

  4. Looking forward to snacks and food for the Super Bowl. The Marvels is still on my list. I'm looking forward to the flerkittens! Ha. Sounds worth it just for that.

    1. Haze, I had some on my list since last year. Good thing Goodreads reminded me! (I had them filed under "February". :-)

  8. Winters come and go, weeds stay forever, at least here. Everything else will be frozen and dead and the weeds are still growing, it amazes me.

Snacks are the fun part of just about every gathering.

    1. I love the weeds, though I think of them as flowers. Dandelions are my favorite. :-)

  11. I loved Meows & Murder. I need to write my review, though. I didn't care who won the Super Bowl, but we had the game on here. Hope you have a great week!

  12. We've sort of skipped winter so far in my part of Minnesota. That's okay with me. The Super Bowl was pretty exciting this year even though I wasn't really rooting for either team. Your books all sound good. I just got a copy of My Phony Valentine but don't know when I'll get a chance to read it. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  13. My Phony Valentine sounds cute so I may check it out. We watched the Super Bowl and supported the Chiefs because our team didn't make it there. It was low key with just us and the dogs. My kind of party. I will probably watch The Marvels but just because we have Disney and won't have to pay any extra. We've been catching up on True Detective: Night Country which I am loving. Hope you have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Barb. That's the only reason I watched The Marvels - because I have Disney+. :-)

  14. Warm weather sounds nice! I hope it lasts for you. I love being able to open the windows and let the fresh air in. No Super Bowl for us here. Just a regular Sunday. I do want to see The Marvels. I hadn't heard it was even out. I'm sorry it wasn't very good. I hope you enjoy your reading and have a great week!

    1. We got some snow this morning and that made me so happy! I prefer the colder weather at this time of year. The Marvels was in theaters last year and just started streaming on Disney+ this month. :-)
