Sunday Post 13

Hi everyone! Welcome to another edition of the Sunday Post!

Did you know that some library systems allow you to get a library card even if you don't live in that county? I have a full-access (online and in person) library card for my local library system, but they don't always have the books I want to read. So I have a second library card in a different county in my state. I was able to register online for the second one, which allows me to borrow online materials.  By having cards in two library systems, I was also able to sign up for two different Hoopla and Libby accounts. (The second Hoopla account does require a second email address, but the second Libby account does not.) I just love all the options our libraries have to offer! I am going to the library today for the first time this year to pick up some print books I want to read. YAY!

Today I am once again linking with Reading Reality, who hosts Stacking the Shelves and The Book Date, who hosts It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (This is posted on Mondays, so be sure to check the link then.)  On their blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger you can join too!

I am still reading this non-fiction book, Golem Girl: A Memoir by Riva Lehrer. It's taking longer than I had planned. The book club meets this Thursday, so I'll definitely finish by then. I am done with the main chapters in the book. Now I'm just reading the explanations of the artwork that is sprinkled throughout the book. (The explanations are in one section in the back of the book.)

I haven't read much of  The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times, by Michelle Obama yet, but I will dive into this book more this week since I'm finishing the memoir I've been reading.

I am going to start reading the e-book version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, by J.K. Rowling, this week. My preference is print books, but there's a very long wait for it at the library and I don't own a copy. I started reading this years ago, but never did finish it.

Assault and Buttery (Popcorn Shop Mystery 3), by Kristi Abbott, will be my first cozy mystery read of the year. I'm excited! I am doing something a little different with this series - I'll be reading it backwards, starting with the third (and I believe final) and ending with the first book in the series. Usually I'm a stickler for reading series in order. I thought it would be fun to try something different for a change. I intentionally chose a short and apparently complete series for this little experiment.

I'll be listening to the audiobook version of Lending a Paw (Bookmobile Cat Mystery 1). The Cozy Mystery Book Club is celebrating their five year anniversary by doing rereads of all of the books they have read. Since I joined late last year, most of the "rereads" will be first time reads (or listens) for me. This looks like a fun series. In my mind, you can't go wrong with books and cats!

And finally, I'm starting a slow and steady read - David Copperfield, by Charles Dickens. I know this is going to take me a while to read. I'm planning to read one chapter most days, so it will take me a couple of months to finish it.

I am also participating in another blog hop today - Sunday Post, hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. With this blog hop, I'll recap what I've posted over the couple of weeks. If you missed a post you want to read, just click on the link below.
As for what I'm watching, I am done with Christmas movies until Hallmark does their annual Christmas in July theme. This week I'll be watching The Wedding Veil Expectations, Family History Mysteries: Buried Past (I'm so excited Hallmark finally has a new mystery!), and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I've seen Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone before, but it's been a while. I remember that I liked it, but not much else other than that!

Have you read any of these books or seen any of the movies I mentioned? What are you up to this week? Do tell!

  1. Yes, when I signed on to Hoopla I was hoping I would have access to the library we just left and the one now, but it signed me in to the one here. It's fine, it's 10 borrows, instead of 3, so that works out fine. Have a great week!

    1. Cindy, wow 3 is not a lot if you want to use it often. That's great you get 10 borrows with the new library. I get 10 with each of mine as well. I know I won't use all of the "borrows", but having both gives me more of a selection since one library doesn't always have what the other one has. :-)

  2. Happy New Year! I hope this is a great year for cozies for you (and I'm hoping to indulge in a few myself) :)

  3. Looks like you've had a good week. I just learned from another blog about using a different library, she suggested the Las Vegas Library, and I just signed up for that one.

    1. Wendy, after I read your comment I looked up that library. Looks like you have to live in the state of Nevada, so that won't work for me. It is great that they offer it within the state, though. That's how mine is. :-)

  4. I kind of know about having a card from two different library systems. I think my state has a monthly fee for a library card in another county. Might has to look that up.
    Have a great week.

    1. Yeah, they all have different requirements. Both of mine are free, otherwise I would not have registered for the second one. Thanks, and I hope you have a great week as well! :-)

  5. I did not know that about libraries. Never felt the need to register in a different county. We are blessed with a great library system. We started reading all the Harry Potters books out loud as a family a couple years ago. We are on the last book right now.

  6. I love my library. They have great ebooks. A really nice selection, too. I read the first couple of Laurie Cass' books in this series and I really need to get back to it. It's really good. There are just so many cozy mysteries out there so a few favorite series have been getting left behind. I have to catch up with them. I hope you have a great week!

    1. Yvonne, I have a ton of catching up to do. There are only two series that I've read more than two books! I'm trying not to get too stressed about all the books there are to read so that I can relax and enjoy them when I do read them. :-)

  7. Though we have a local library system, similar to your county system I think, they are all connected to the state system so if the local library doesn’t have what you want, and another in the state does, they will arrange an inter library loan.
Fun Fact: in the UK and Australia The book and movie is Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. I’m not sure why the US publishers felt the need to change it

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. The second library system for which I have a library card is not connected to the state (even though it is located in the same state), so they have a different (and surprisingly larger) collection of digital selections. I have done interlibrary loan as well through my local library, which is also great! So many options!! :-)))

  8. Oh good info on libraries. I have read the Harry Potter book, but none of the others you mentioned. I like to read cozy series in order, but sometimes I go out of order if I want to read a seasonally themed book- I love fall and winter seasonal cozies!

  9. My daughter and I were going to read A Tale of Two Cities together, but it was a slog, so we haven't tried a Dickens classic again, lol. Happy reading. Here's my first review of the year.

    1. Lyn, I haven't read A Tale of Two Cities, but I've read that it has a completely different tone than some of his other books. I think you and your daughter might enjoy David Copperfield a lot more! :-)

    2. I will tell her about it! I thnk I listened to David Copperfield on audio a long time ago and remember enjoying it.
