Sunday Post 36

Hello, friends!

On these blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

So, summer is here and I cannot wait until fall! I do believe there is something to appreciate in each season, but summer is my least favorite. The thing I appreciate the most about it is that my favorite season comes next!

We did get some much needed rain last week. It was a nice steady rain with no storms, at least not in my area. For the past several days, though, it's been unbearably (for me) humid. It's in the low 80's now, but the dew point makes it feel like it's in the 90's. I'm immensely grateful for books and movies, both of which can be enjoyed in the comfort of A/C!

I did have what I consider a good week of reading. I finished one novella and made good headway in other books I'm reading.

RECENTLY FINISHED
πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„
I finished reading Almost Fangmous, by Elle Wren Burke. You can read my review here.
IN PROGRESS
Not If I Date You First
, by Krysti Meyer, is still in progress. I'm hoping to finish it this week, but I won't post my review until the release date later in July.
I have about three hours left to listen to in the audiobook format of You Can't Candle the Truth (Glenmyre Whim Mystery 1), written by Sarah E. Burr and beautifully narrated by Melissa Green.  I'm planning to finish listening to it this week. I'll post a review when I'm done.
I almost most done reading Tagged for Death (Sarah Winston Garage Sale Mystery 1), by Sherry Harris. The Cozy Mystery Book Club meets to discuss this book on Tuesday evening. If you've read the book, come join the fun on YouTube! I will definitely finish it today or tomorrow, then I'll post a review. If you want to read some excerpts from this book, click here and scroll down a bit.
I haven't posted this book in a while, but I'm still reading The Complete Book of Flower Fairies, by Cicely Mary Barker. I finished reading all of the spring poems and I've started reading the summer ones.
In addition to these books, I'll also be reading the summer issue of Bella Grace Magazine. This is my favorite magazine and the only one I subscribe to. I love the seasonal creative non-fiction, lists, and writing prompts in them. I didn't finish the spring issue, so I bookmarked it, shelved it,  and will finish it next spring.

It really bugs me that magazines, especially ones like Bella Grace that are more like books, don't count on Goodreads. I think StoryGraph is the same. What bugs me even more is that coloring books DO count on Goodreads! (I haven't check StoryGraph or other tracking sites for them.) I have no problem with coloring books. I love to color and would be happy to track completed coloring books, of which I have none, along with my other books, but I just don't understand why coloring books count and magazines don't.

UP NEXT
Murder on the Beach: A Destination Murders Short Story Collection
is a library book that I'll have for three more weeks, so this is next on my list to read. Most likely, I'll be reading it just for a July 4th getaway (from the comfort of my home)!

I am also going to read Be Careful What You Witch For: Prequel to the Bewitcher's Beach Paranormal Cozy Mysteries. This is a short novella. After I read it, I'll post a review.
So, if I have my act together, I'll be posting three reviews this week, in addition to my regular weekly posts. That's a lot for me, so we'll see how it goes.

Here's the recap of what I've recently posted. If you missed a post you want to read (or if you want to read it again!), just click on the link below.

  • Book Review 06/21 - Almost Fangmous, by Elle Wren Burke

  • Puzzle 06/24 - Summer Beach theme
I continued watching Season 2 of Once Upon a Time. The last episode in this season that I watched was number 11 and what an emotional cliffhanger at the end!! I'm so glad I don't have to wait a week to watch the next episode. I'll be watching it this evening.

I also watched the first episode of Secret Invasion, the new Marvel series. I know series like this are very popular, but they're just not my thing. Still, I don't want to miss any of the action in the MCU, so I'll see it through. In addition to Secret Invasion, I also watched a few episodes of What If...? (The title has a question mark at the end. Am I also supposed to add a period?) Anyway, this is a cartoon that's very well done if you like to ponder such questions in the MCU. I like the creative thinking involved with this one. the animation is also good. I like the series more than I thought I would.

I really enjoyed all four Hallmark movies I watched last week. Only one was a premiere. The rest were older ones. I'll post my full list of movies watched this month on July 4th, only because that happens to be the first Tuesday of the month.

What's up in your world? Let me know if you have seen any of the above movies or series, or read any of the books I mentioned. Let's chat in the comments!

  1. I hear you on the heat! Our AC went out as you know and that was NOT fun. I'll be ready for fall soon! I watched secret Invasion as well and it was okay.

Have you ever seen Brambly Hedge The Complete Collection, or Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady? Both are on my TBR and your Fairies book reminded me of them...

    1. Greg, no I haven't. I need to look that up! I love fairies! Thanks! :-)

    2. Update: Okay, so I looked them up and I see they're not about fairies. Lol. They do look delightful, though, so I added them to my TBR. Thank you!! :-)

  2. You certainly keep busy! I like the idea of reading a book of seasonal poetry the way you are doing, just enjoying the poems for the current season.

    1. I love reading books of any kind when they're "in season". It isn't possible when it's a book that spans a longer period of time, but cozy mysteries, which is what I read most of the time, are usually set within a few weeks or less. So I can read those seasonally if I know ahead of time when they take place. I love when the cover of the book gives clues about what season it is. :-)

  3. Your books all look so good. I want to read Almost Fangmous, but I haven't been able to find the author's newsletter to get it yet. I have to see if my library has Murder on the Beach. That looks like a good one. Have a great week!

  4. It's funny that magazines don't count but coloring books do! I did not realize that.

I think you had a good reading week. I don't always finish a book every week. I'm happy if I make good progress on my reads.

    1. Deb, that's a great perspective. I should focus on progress in general, not just finishing a book. :-)

  5. When summer gets too hot I am not in favour either and big no to humidity. Your books all look lovely.

  6. It’s the humidity that is the worst.
I had to look up Bella Grace, I’d never heard of it. LibraryThing allows you to list magazines https://www.librarything.com/search.php?search=Bella+Grace&searchtype=newwork_titles&sortchoice=0

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. Oh, thanks! I just recently downloaded the LibraryThing app, and then deleted it a few days later. Lol. I had to make room on my phone for an update for another app. Maybe I should delete some of the thousands of pictures I have. :-) I'll look into it, though. I know Goodreads used to allow me to input magazines even though they've never technically been allowed. So some of the older ones are there, but I can't add new ones.

  7. What an interesting assortment of books! I don't know how you read so many at a time. I used to be a one book at a time reader but, with audiobooks finally coming onto my radar, now I read one print and one audiobook at a time. That's the most I can do. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. Well, I hadn't planned it that way. I fell behind with my reading and in order to finish the ARC and the one for the book club, I had to have both of them in progress. There are only two print novels listed there under "in progress" (another one is a book of poetry and I only read one or two short poems a day), so it wasn't that bad. I focused mostly on Tagged for Death. Now I'm focusing on Not if I Date You First. :-)

  8. The complete book of flower fairies. That sounds like something I'd like. I'm the magical grandma so I have to stay up on my fairy knowledge. Here's What I'm Reading

  9. Summer is my least favorite too. I'm hot and exhausted from May until September. I hope these books are worth the wait!
