Sunday Post 53

Hello, friends!

Through Monday I am linking with the following:

On these blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

So, I've discovered two new puzzles/games that I'm somewhat hooked on. The first one is Murdle. It's a logic puzzle where you have to figure out the suspect, weapon, and location of the murder given certain clues. Like Wordle (which I play daily), there is one puzzle to solve each day (unless you also do the daily mini Murdle). Usually if I can't figure it out in a reasonable amount of time, I just give up and make a wild guess. (My wild guesses have always been wrong.) I have been able to crack some of the cases using logic, though. I love logic puzzles even though I'm not that great at them.

The other one I found out about through a friend is actually an app - Mistplay. Are you familiar with it? Through Mistplay, you can download other games. It tracks your time spent on those games and when you earn a certain number of points, you can redeem them for gift cards. I'm going to save mine up so I can get a larger amount on a gift card. I only play one game through Mistplay - Wordscapes. I used to play this a while ago, but then I stopped and deleted it.

RECENTLY FINISHED
🍄🍄🍄🍄
I listened again to If You've Got it, Haunt it (Haunted Vintage Mystery 1), written by Rose Pressey and narrated by Tara Orchs. I increased my rating from three to four mushrooms. Although I wasn't crazy about one of the main characters (I didn't dislike her; I just didn't love her) and I thought the plot was a bit slow-moving at times, I did enjoy the mystery. I'm curious about how the subplot will progress, so I may eventually continue the series.
IN PROGRESS
I started reading Over My Dead Blog (Book Blogger Mystery 1), by Sarah E. Burr. This is an ARC that will be released on Halloween, so it is my goal to have my review posted on that date.

UP NEXT
Donna Andrews is one of the mystery writers who will be speaking at my local library next month. The discussion will be followed by a meet and greet. I've been wanting to read or listen to her books, so there's no better time to start than now! I usually read series in order, but I'm making an exception this time and jumping in with Lord of the Wings (Meg Langslow Mystery 19). This is a Halloween-themed mystery, so I thought it would be fun to listen to it this week.
POSTPONING
I'm almost done reading Double Booked for Death (Black Cat Bookshop Mystery 1), by Ali Brandon. However, I didn't finish it in time before it was due at the library. It was an interlibrary loan, so there was no option to renew it. So I returned it and re-requested it. I should be able to borrow it again in the next week or two. To read some excerpts from this book, click here.
ON TELEVISON
  • Hallmark movies - I watched The Good Witch's Wonder and Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Road Less Travelled. This concludes the original series of movies for The Good Witch. The television series is next, but I may wait until next year to watch it. I'd have to either borrow it from the library or subscribe to Hallmark Movies Now. However, I have so many other movies on the DVR that I really don't need to go that route at this time. In the Signed, Sealed, Delivered series, I have two more movies to watch. I really liked The Road Less Travelled. It's one of my favorites in the series. It's a great road trip movie. I've watched other road trip movies on Hallmark, but this is by far the best I've seen. This entire series overall does a great job weaving in the stories of the main characters with the mysteries.
  • Friends - I finished watching Season 3 and I started Season 4. We are really starting to see the chemistry between Monica and Chandler. Also, I didn't realize how much I disliked the character of Rachel during this time period (late Season 3 and early Season 4). Joey is cool, but Phoebe is still my favorite character.
  • Loki - I watched the third episode this morning. I thought it was a pretty good episode, much better than last week's. It's still a slow-moving season for me, though.
  • Once Upon a Studio - This is a really cute animated short celebrating 100 years of Disney. It's on Disney+.

WEEKLY BLOG RECAP

I didn't post any reviews last week, but I'll be back on Monday with my thoughts on Magic, Movies, and Murder (Bewitcher's Beach Mystery 1), by Emily Fluke. Check out my Four for Friday (link above) to read excerpts from this five-star book. The puzzle from this past week was also inspired by this book.

Have a great week, everyone!

  1. I have heard of Mist Play and I wondered if it was a scam. I scan my receipts through Fetch to get points that eventually translate to gift cards, so I guess Mist Play is the same general idea? I LOVE the title and idea of Over My Dead Blog and will be looking for your thoughts on it. Have a great week.

    1. Cindy, I looked into this before I downloaded Mistplay. I was skeptical at first, but there are thousands of positive reviews for it. I didn't have to submit any personal information (probably not until I redeem my points, I'm guessing). It isn't a quick way to make money because it does take a while to build up enough points to redeem them for a decent amount on a gift card, but I don't believe it's a scam. I am enjoying Over My Dead Blog. :)

    1. Thank you, Mark! I agree, Once Upon a Studio is worth a second watch. Your blog is where I first heard of Donna Andrews. You can't forget a title like Round Up the Usual Peacocks. LOL. I've had her series on my TBR list ever since you reviewed that book. :-)

  5. Those sound like fun games. I need to start Loki. I have to finish S1 though first. I feel like they're going high concept with all the time travel/ multiverse stuff and that might slow the show down a bit.

    1. Yeah, definitely finish S1 first, Greg. I love the time travel aspect, but yeah S2 is a bit slow for me. The games are a bit addictive. :-)

  6. I haven't heard of either of those games. Right now, Royal Match and Block Blast are what I'm mostly playing.

All your books sound great. I love mysteries. Thanks for sharing.

  9. I play Wordle, Waffle, Quordle and Blossom most days on my computer. Those other games sound good too but I don't do apps. I have been enjoying the Donna Andrews series and am glad they can be read out of order. I've had the most recent ones as review copies and am trying to catch up on the rest of the series. Chirp had quite a few of them as very reasonably priced audiobooks. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
