Sunday Post 57

Hello, friends!

Through Monday I am linking with the following:

On these blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

Thank you to everyone who expressed condolences about my friend's passing last Sunday. I'm still in a bit of a daze. It's tough enough to lose one friend, but to lose four in six months, in addition to others I've lost in previous years, seems unreal.

On a much lighter note, a while back I asked for input on e-readers. I've decided that I'm going to buy a Kindle Paperwhite. I know the latest version was released a few years ago, so they better not come out with a new version right after I buy it! I also decided on a case for it. Now I just need Black Friday to get here so I can finally buy them. I've heard that the best deals on Kindles are always on Black Friday.

There was only one other time when I was this excited about Black Friday and that was many years ago when I braved the brick and mortar stores to buy a scanner. It's a fond memory getting there at the crack of dawn, finding they were all sold out in one store, then going to another location of the same store to finally buy it. It was a great deal and that scanner lasted me a long time...but never again! In general, I'm not much of a fan of the whole Black Friday hype, but this year I'm just so excited I'll finally be getting an e-reader.

RECENTLY FINISHED
🍄🍄🍄🍄
I finished listening to A Heartfelt Christmas Promise, by Nancy Naigle. The first half of the book takes place before and on Thanksgiving Day and the second half leads up to Christmas. It's very light on the romance. Rather it's mostly about a small town community and all of the people in it. I would have preferred less corporate talk, but overall it was a nice cozy book to listen to. It is narrated by Stacey Glemboski. You can read some excerpts here.
IN PROGRESS
I'm still reading Double Booked for Death (Black Cat Bookshop Mystery 1), by Ali Brandon, I haven't been reading for long periods of time lately, but I am making progress. I have about 70 pages left to read. To read some excerpts from this book, click here.
UP NEXT
A Fatal Feast
(Murder, She Wrote 32), by Donald Bain and Jessica Fletcher, is still up next. I love that this series can be read out of order. I listened to Murder on Parade over the summer and it had all the 4th of July feels. A Fatal Feast takes place around Thanksgiving.
My audiobook listen this week will be Sprinkle with Murder (Cupcake Bakery Mystery 1). by Jenn McKinlay. It's narrated by Susan Boyce. This is for The Cozy Mystery Book Club, which meets next week.
ON TELEVISON
  • Hallmark romcoms - I watched Autumn Dreams and Under the Autumn Moon. I'm not sure I would re-watch these, but I did enjoy them once. They both have the autumn vibes I was looking for.
  • Moonlighting - I had never seen this popular 80's show until last week. Now that it's streaming on Hulu, I'll probably watch it sometimes, though not often. I did enjoy the pilot episode, which is the only episode I've seen so far. They did a good job setting up the premise of the show, while moving the plot along in this episode.
  • Friends - I finished watching season 4 and I started season 5. I'm beginning to like Rachel's character again. Ross's look changed a bit in this season, which I hadn't noticed before. Season 5 is probably my favorite season. I think the episodes where Chandler and Monica struggle to hide their relationship are some of the funniest of the entire series.
  • What If...? - Coincidentally, I finished watching season 1 on the same day it was announced that season 2 will begin streaming in late December, just before Christmas. I liked season 1, though some episodes are noticeably stronger than others. My favorite is What If...Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands? This episode was so moving. I'll most likely watch season 2 when it starts streaming and not wait 2 years this time!
WEEKLY BLOG RECAP
As you can see, I didn't post any reviews last week and I still haven't posted my monthly list of movies watched in October. I haven't had the time nor the brain power to post much, but I will try to get some reviews and/or lists up this week. I finished physical therapy (will do the exercises at home) and I have no doctor appointments scheduled this week, so I should have more time.

Happy Thanksgiving to my friends in the U.S.A. and a Happy Week to all!

  1. Kindles are always a nice solid choice! I use Onyx Boox devices (I have a Palma, which is cellphone sized, and a Leaf2, which is bigger), but I almost always use the Kindle app on them. I hope you enjoy your new ereader -- I always find it exciting, or maybe I'm just a nerd, haha.

    1. Thank you, Nicky! I looked into the Onyx Boox. I've heard great things about it, but it's out of my price range. I think I'll be happy with the Kindle Paperwhite. It will just be nice to give my phone a break and read on something that feels more like a book and has a larger screen. Have a great week! :)

  2. Hope you enjoy your Kindle paperwhite when you get it. I've had mine now for a few years and am very happy with it. So good for reading books I can't obtain otherwise.

  3. I've never been brave enough to do Black Friday at a store. I usually stay home and put up the Christmas decorations. I hope you have a great week!

  4. Season 5 of Friends has my all time favorite episode - The One Where They All Find Out. "But they don't know we know they know." Cracks me up every time.

  5. I hate Black Friday shopping unless it is on line. We just wrapped up Fear the Walking Dead last night. I enjoyed the series but the ending went off the rails. Enjoy yourvweek!

  6. You are going to love the Kindle Paperwhite. I love mine. I have the 11th generation which I think is the newest. Black Friday sales are definitely the best time to get a Kindle. I think that's when I got mine. Anyway, you are going to love it. I used to love Moonlighting but I don't have Hulu so I won't be able to stream it. That's a great show, though. Hope you have a great week!

    1. Yvonne, yes I do believe the 11th generation is the newest one. Good to know you love yours! I don't pay for a Hulu subscription. The basic plan comes with my cell phone plan, otherwise I wouldn't subscribe to it. However, I've read that Hulu will be merging with Disney+ soon, so you may end up having it after all if you also have Disney+. :-)

  7. I have enjoyed all the Kindles that I've owned. My current one is a Paperwhite too. I got it on Black Friday last year. I do recall rising at the crack of dawn on Black Friday to go to stores. There is nothing that I want so much that I would do it again now. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  9. Losing that many friends has to be very hard. I am sorry for your grief.

I picked up a Kindle Paperwhite on Black Friday a few years ago and also got one for my mom. We'd been saving up and were so happy to be able to get it for her with the help of my brother and sister-in-law. I love having it so I can read it at night without having a light on and without it being too bright on my eyes and messing with my melatonin.

I'll be watching Hallmark Christmas movies soon, I'm sure.

I've always wanted to watch Moonlighting. I've been seeing the commercials for it but we don't have Hulu right now.

My son and husband really like What If..? I have watched a couple with them and liked it okay too, but the superhero thing is more their "thing". Ha! I do enjoy the shows, though. We just finished Loki and I was very confused through most of it, but it was good.

    1. Thank you, Lisa. I am so looking forward to getting my first e-reader. The hardest part about online shopping is that I can't have it at home the day I purchase it, but I think it will be worth the wait. I started watching Hallmark Christmas movies today. I started with Holiday Hotline, as I had heard it covers both Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was a good transition into the holiday season. The Moonlighting pilot was good, but I'm not in a rush to watch the rest of the episodes right now. I prefer Murder, She Wrote. I still have 9 seasons of that left to watch. Lol. I was disappointed with season 2 of Loki overall, but it definitely ended strong. :)

  10. I wish you good luck on getting your Kindle Paperwhite tomorrow at a great price. I have a simple Kindle but I use it all the time. The battery lasts forever and I can read even in the glare of the sun.

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm just getting around to visiting my blog friends this week---apologies for being so late to the table.
