Sunday Post 17

Welcome to another edition of my Sunday Post, friends!

Is winter over? Was the ground hog wrong? We had a few days of really frigid temps, but we seem to be past that now. This winter has produced merely a trace of snow so far. This snow lover is hoping February delivers!

Today I am once again linking with Reading Reality, who hosts Stacking the Shelves and The Book Date, who hosts It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (This is posted on Mondays, so be sure to check the link then.)  On their blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger you can join too!

I'll be reading Chapters 8 and 9 in the e-book version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, by J.K. Rowling this week. Now we're getting into the meat of the magic!

My audiobook listen for last week was Eclair and Present Danger (Emergency Dessert Squad 1), written by Laura Bradford and narrated by Vanessa Daniels. I can't even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed it! The premise, the characters, the mystery - it was all such a delightful listen. It reminds me a lot of the Hannah Swensen Mysteries, by Joanne Fluke, only the Emergency Dessert Squad series has quite a unique twist on the business of a bakery. I will definitely be continuing this series, most likely in print. I gave this first in series 5/5 solid stars. And yes, I did eat an eclair while listening to it! I couldn't resist.

I am planning to finish Buried in the Stacks (Haunted Library Mystery 3), by Allison Brook this week. It's an interesting book. I'm just now getting into the mystery aspect of it. This series is always an entertaining read.

My audiobook listen for this week will be The Secret Ingredient, written by Nancy Naigle and narrated by Karissa Vacker. This is a romcom that was made into a Hallmark movie in 2020. It takes place around Valentine's Day. I'm going to watch the movie before starting the audiobook. (That's how I roll most of the time - watch the movie before reading or listening to the book.) I watch a lot of romcoms on The Hallmark Channel, but I have not read too many. Why not begin again during what Hallmark calls Loveuary?

I had set aside The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times, by Michelle Obama for a while, but I'm ready to finish it this week.

I am also participating in another blog hop today - Sunday Post, hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. With this blog hop, I'll recap what I've posted over the couple of weeks. If you missed a post you want to read, just click on the link below.
  • Sunday Post 01/29- What I've been reading and watching
  • Mystery Monday 01/30 - Review of Cheddar Late Than Dead (Grilled Cheese Mystery 3), by Linda Reilly
  • Top Ten Tuesday (on a Wednesday) 02/01 - January Caboodle of Movies
  • Felines and Fill-ins 02/03 - Bookish question, weekly fill-ins, and feline fun
  • Puzzle  02/04 - Vintage Valentine theme
As for television highlights, I watched the third episode of The Way Home. I am enjoying the series. In the world of movies, I watched a couple of Hallmark movies from previous years, including Murder, She Baked: A Peach Cobbler Mystery. I will be posting my review tomorrow (Monday). If you want to watch a good, clean mystery that takes place around Valentine's Day, I recommend this one. This is my favorite Hallmark mystery series. Yes, they are different than the books, but isn't that always the case? I enjoy them immensely for what they are.

I also finally watched Black Panther: Wakanda Forever since it started streaming on Disney+. I had really high hopes for this movie, but for me, it fell flat. I think all of the actors and actresses are extremely talented (I was especially rooting for Letitia Wright because she's from Guyana, which is where my family is from), but I don't think they had the best script with which to work.

Did you see any of the movies or read or listen to any of the books I mentioned? If so, what are your thoughts on them?

  3. I just watched Black Panther too and I was a little disappointed as well. For me it was Namor who I'm a huge fan of and I didn't really understand where they were going with that. And it's been so cold here! We got dumped on with snow but it's sorta melting today...

  4. Movies do have to be different, it's not always possible to fit everything from a very long book into a movie and sometimes other parts of written text just don't translate perfectly to the screen. That's okay, it's fun to read and watch the movie and see where the differences lie.

    1. Oh, yes, Hallmark has quite a few Valentine's Day themed movies. They specialize in romance, so it makes sense that they celebrate Valentine's Day. :-)
