Sunday Post 31

Greetings and good tidings, dear friends!

Except for a doctor's appointment on Tuesday that went smoothly, I had a pretty quiet week. I'm certainly not complaining!

This week, my building will be power washed and balconies will be worked on, so it won't be so quiet. They will be scaling the building like Spider-man, so I'll be living in a cave with the windows and blinds closed while they work. It's too bad because the weather is supposed to be really nice this week. I wish I could keep the balcony door open. I am glad they will have nice weather to work with, though. Bell and Fiona tend to go crazy when the blinds are shut (a.k.a attack the blinds), but if there's noise out there, they'll probably hide from it.

Today I am once again linking with Reading Reality, who hosts Stacking the Shelves, and The Book Date, who hosts It's Monday! What Are You Reading?  The latter is posted on Mondays, so be sure to check the link then.  On these blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

RECENTLY FINISHED

I finished reading When the Crow's Away (Evenfall Witches B&B Mystery 2), by Auralee Wallace, and I loved it! It had a lot to measure up to since I enjoyed the first one so much, but it definitely delivered. I will be posting a review of it in a couple of weeks. You can read some brief excerpts from this cozy by clicking here. To read my review of In the Company of Witches (Evenfall Witches B&B 1), click here.
IN PROGRESS
Shady Hollow
(Shady Hollow 1), by Juneau Black, was published in 2015, but I just became aware of it last year. I requested the audiobook on Libby a few months ago. I am very picky about audiobooks, so when I heard this one is really good on audio, I decided I would give it a listen.  Libby finally added it to its collection and it became available for me this morning. So far I really like it. I should be able to finish it this week, as it's only a little more than six hours long. I'll keep you posted!
UP NEXT
Murder, She Barked (Paws and Claws Mystery 1), by Krista Davis, is the May pick for The Cozy Mystery Book Club, which meets the day after Memorial Day. I had hoped to start it last week, but I didn't have time. I'll start reading it tomorrow.
I am also participating in Sunday Post, hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. With this blog hop, I'll recap what I've recently posted. If you missed a post you want to read (or if you want to read it again!), just click on the link below.
I finished watching Andor. I hesitate to say I "enjoyed" watched this series because it was pretty sad throughout the 12 episodes. However, it is a really great series, one of the best that is streaming on Disney+. It's too emotional for me to watch again, but one day I might. I was confused about some of what happened, which is not unusual for me. It sometimes takes me at least two go 'rounds to really grasp everything that happens in a movie or series. I think I will rewatch Rogue One, though, now that I have more background on Andor's character.

I also finally watched Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania since it's now streaming on Disney+. This is definitely not the best Marvel movie ever, but I do think it's better than many reviews say it is (minus the few instances of vulgar language). It got me even more excited for season two of Loki, which will start streaming in October. It can't come soon enough. I loved the first season of Loki.

Another movie I watched was Venom. Although this movie was released several years ago, it just recently started streaming on Disney+. Minus the couple of uses of strong language, I liked it and I will eventually watch Venom 2, which is not streaming on Disney+. I'll probably borrow it from the library in the summer.

Hallmark Movies and Mysteries aired a seventh movie in the Murder, She Baked/Hannah Swensen series on Friday. You know it's important to me when I stay up past my bedtime to watch a movie. I'm planning to watch it again on Monday and I'll be posting a review of it this week, hopefully on Wednesday, but maybe on Thursday.

Have you seen any of the above movies or series, or read any of the books I mentioned? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Ugh, tis the season for outside yard & improvement noises. Hopefully they move away from your area quickly and you are able to throw open those windows and enjoy the weather!

  2. I do hope the work on the building goes well.

Some series become so serious and so much happens, it's hard to keep up.

  3. Oh having the building washed etc does mean a bit of discomfort for sure. Looks like some good reading and its great to get a really good audiobook.

  4. The last time they powerwashed and repainted my building, they left it call covered over all weekend. That was a long weekend. Not sure how I'd handled it now since I am working from home and very spoiled looking out my windows multiple times a day.

Shady Hallow has been on my wish list for a while. Glad to know you are enjoying it.

    1. Mark, wow. I can't imagine keeping it covered all weekend, especially on a long weekend. Our power washing, etc. is expected to all be done by Friday. Shady Hollow is a very different kind of cozy for sure, but it's really cute. :)

  5. I hope the outside work on your building isn't too distracting and doesn't scare the cats too much. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. Kathy, the cats were really mad at me this morning when I closed the blinds! We'll all be happy when the work is done. :)

  6. I really want to start watching the Hannah Swenson movies from the start...actually, I want to continue reading the books. I need more hours in the day :)

I hope you have a great week and enjoy your books.

  7. I enjoyed Andor but it can be heavy. And I liked Quantumania too! Not perfect but fun, better than I thought it might be given all the bad word of mouth.
