Happy Mother's Day to all kinds of moms! May it be all that you wish it to be. Thank you for all you do! If you are missing your mom or children today, I am sending you virtual hugs from across the miles. I know this day isn't easy for everyone. Please know my heart goes out to you.
I had a great week of reading and listening, the best in a while. So let's get started.
Today I am once again linking with Reading Reality, who hosts Stacking the Shelves, and The Book Date, who hosts It's Monday! What Are You Reading? The latter is posted on Mondays, so be sure to check the link then. On these blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

I finished reading Checked Out for Murder (Haunted Library Mystery 4), by Allison Brook. It's a good mystery with a wonderful community. The family dynamics are also interesting. The paranormal element isn't as strong as I'd like it to be and some abrasive language didn't feel cozy to me. However, I will definitely continue reading the series. If you want to read some brief excerpts from this book, click here.
I hadn't planned on listening to an audiobook, but I listened to Live and Let Chai (Seaside Cafe Mystery 1), by Bree Baker, last week. This is a good, clean cozy. The setting with lots of talk about iced tea and cucumber sandwiches was perfect. I didn't guess the culprit. However, I would have liked more sleuthing. Also, the references to the protagonist's weight didn't sit well with me. I'm on the fence about continuing the series.

Murder, She Barked (Paws and Claws Mystery 1), by Krista Davis, is the May pick for The Cozy Mystery Book Club, so I'll start reading that sometime this week. I just borrowed it from the library on Friday. I love that there is both a dog and a cat on the cover. This should be a fun read!
I am also participating in Sunday Post, hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. With this blog hop, I'll recap what I've recently posted. If you missed a post you want to read (or if you want to read it again!), just click on the link below.

I finished watching The Mandalorian (Season 3). It was okay, but not as good as the previous two seasons. Last week I started watching Andor. This is a really good show. I'm halfway through the series. Six more episodes to go.
I watched Everything Everywhere All At Once. You may recall, this won Best Picture at the Oscars this year. My unpopular opinion is that it was just okay. I understood the ultimate message, but I was royally confused on the journey to get there. I also really dislike vulgarity. Ugh. I would have enjoyed it so much more with out that. In fact, I would probably watch it again to try and understand it better, if not for the rated R reasons. I loved the premise, but not the execution.
That being said, it had me craving an Everything Bagel. I haven't had a bagel in years. Guess what I had for breakfast today. Let's just call it a Mother's Day treat. I am a cat mom, after all.
On a lighter note, I am all caught up with Hallmark's Spring Into Love premieres and I also watched the latest Mahagony movie. None of them were great, but I still really enjoyed them. Even the most mundane Hallmark movies clear my head and put me in a positive mindset. I typically don't enjoy the non-Christmas movies on Hallmark as much as the Christmas ones, but I'll still keep watching them.
I recorded the latest mystery that aired on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries on Friday. I'll watch and review it this week. I do love their cozy mysteries!!
Let me know in the comments what's going on in your world!
Sounds like a great reading week! I am hoping my upcoming week is better for reading than this past week. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cindy! I hope your week goes well! :-)
DeleteI felt exactly the same way you did about Everything Everywhere All At Once. I thought it was just me. Like you, I'm a cat mom, too, and an Everything Bagel sounds delicious. I read the first in the Paws and Claws Mystery series and loved it. I'm going to get back to it soon. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGood to know I'm not the only one who feels that way, Yvonne. Happy Mother's Day! :-)
DeleteHappy Mother's Day to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteLooks like you had a great reading week! I also enjoy cozy mysteries but haven't read any of these. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kathy! :)
DeleteI love all the cozy mysteries that you’ve included - I’ll definitely check these out. I agree about Everything Everywhere All At Once - I watched the first 45 minutes but it wasn’t a good match for me. Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to know there are others who feel the same way. Like Yvonne said, I also thought it was just me! :)
DeleteI really enjoy the Haunted Library Mystery series and look forward to the next one. Unfortunately we don't get the Hallmark channel here but I am watching Ted Lasso at present and that keeps me happy. May not be for you though - some strong language!
ReplyDeleteKathryn, I know that Ted Lasso is popular. But you're right. It's definitely not for me. I don't have that streaming service anyway. :)
