Sunday Post 44

Hello, friends!

On these blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

Now that we're in the second half of August, I feel like we're over the hump of the consistent summer heat and humidity. I know it isn't completely over, but we're starting to have fewer days that are oppressive. Yesterday was spectacular. It will get hot and humid again before summer is over, I'm sure, but hopefully not for long periods of time. I was at the grocery store last week and I noticed they have Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations out for sale, so I see that as a good sign and it makes me happy. (I'm sure that will be a controversial statement. LOL.)

RECENTLY FINISHED
🍄🍄
I finished listening to A Killer Plot (Books by the Bay Mystery 1), by Ellery Adams. Sadly, I did not enjoy this book. The mystery was fine, but I didn't like the main character. If the main character in a book is not meant to be a villain, but they are not likeable, I will not enjoy the book. It's possible that the main character will change later, but I didn't like this first book enough to continue reading the series.
🍄🍄🍄🍄
I did enjoy reading The Firefly Jar (Crickley Creek 1), by Laurie Beach. I'm planning to post my review on Thursday. In the meantime, you can read some excerpts from it here.
IN PROGRESS
I started reading Death on the Shelf (Haunted Library Mystery 5), by Allison Brook, and I'm enjoying it. I will most likely review it when I'm done, but in the meantime, you can read some excerpts here.
UP NEXT
Next, I'm planning to read #TagMe for Murder (Trending Topic Mystery 1), by Sarah E. Burr. I read the first one #FollowMe for Murder, and I really enjoyed it, so I'm looking forward to reading the second installment.
I already listened to You Can't Candle the Truth (Glenmyre Whim Mystery 1), also by Sarah E. Burr. However, I didn't review it. I do remember that I loved it, but I don't remember some of the details. So I'm going to listen to it again, then post my review. The second one in this series, Too Much to Candle, takes place around Halloween and I want to be prepared to read or listen to that one at that time of year (which, if you ask my local grocery store, is now...lol). I'll have to wait until early fall, assuming my library has it by then.
ON TELEVISON
  • Hallmark Summer Nights - I continued watching summer-themed movies, including the premieres. Over the past two weeks I've been to Fiji (twice), Africa for a safari, and Montana. I've been enjoying my arm chair travels!
  • Friends - I began a re-watch of season 2 and the tables have turned. Ross is apparently over Rachel since he has a girlfriend, Julie, but Rachel now can't stop thinking about Ross. Here's a fun fact. The actress who played Ross's girlfriend in this season, Lauren Tom, also starred in a 2021 Hallmark movie, Sweet Pecan Summer. I didn't know that before I saw the movie, but I immediately recognized her.
  • Signed, Sealed, Delivered - I watched One in a Million and enjoyed it. Six more movies to go in this series!

  1. We still seem to have a lot of summer to go.

Your summer movies sound fun, I wouldn't mind a mini-vacation myself.

  4. Yes I like to like the main character as well in a book of any kind. Or else! Good to hear you are enjoying the Haunted Library book - a series I enjoy. Nice to see the humid weather beginning to abate.

  6. You got a lot of reading in this week. I'm sorry that you were disappointed with A Killer Plot. I need my main characters to be likable, too.

Our summer doesn't begin to end until the middle of October here. Enjoy your last bits of summer there.

  7. I agree that I too am unlikely to continue a series if I don't like the main character. Your other books sound good though. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  9. Sorry to hear about A Killer Plot. I know what you mean. I remember having issues with the main character too, and I've seen debate online about her. I think she DOEs get better? I enjoyed the series a little more, mainly for the setting maybe, but I never finished the whole series either,

    the Cozumel one sounds great!!

    1. Greg, it's good to know the main character gets better. I do love the setting and premise, so maybe in due time I'll give book 2 a try. Cozumel was a nice little armchair vacation! :-)

  10. I've never watched a Hallmark movie that I didn't love.
