Sunday Post 58

Hello, friends!

Through Monday I am linking with the following:

On these blogs you will be able to see links to the posts from others who are participating in these blog hops, and if you're a blogger, you can join too.

I did it! I ordered a Kindle Paperwhite!! I'm so excited to use my very first e-reader!! Can you tell? Lol. I had planned on getting the 8gb, which is probably more than I'll ever need, but since the 16gb was just a few dollars more, I bought that one. If I ever decide to store a lot audiobooks on it, that will come in useful. I probably won't since I use Hoopla and Libby on my phone for audiobooks instead of Audible, but it's nice to have at very little extra cost if I change my mind. The expected date of delivery is Wednesday, so hopefully by this time next week I'll be telling you all about how much I love it!

Unfortunately, the case I want has not been on sale this weekend. A different color in the same style is on sale, but not the one I want. Light blue is a lovely, happy color, but I prefer a neutral color. So I will wait until Cyber Monday to see if the brown one goes on sale and if it doesn't, I'll just go ahead and buy it. I'm guessing it won't go on sale because the Cyber Monday deals seem to already be in full swing.

Oh, and the icing on the cake that I didn't expect is that I also get Kindle Unlimited free for three months! I have never used Kindle Unlimited, so this is a treat for me! It's nice that I'll get to enjoy it during the holiday season and into early next year. I already have access to KU, but I'll wait until my Kindle device arrives to start using it.

IN THE BOOKS
To see how I'm doing with my 2023 bookish challenges, click on 2023 Bookish Challenges on the right sidebar. I only have one more cozy mystery to read or listen to in order to complete the highest level of the Cruisin' thru Cozies Challenge!

RECENTLY FINISHED
🍄🍄🍄🍄
I finished reading Double Booked for Death (Black Cat Bookshop Mystery 1), by Ali Brandon! While I enjoyed the mystery, I don't think I'll continue reading this series. There is a good deal of swearing in this book, which is something I don't enjoy. If you don't mind swearing and you enjoy cozies with a slightly darker tone, you'll probably enjoy this one. I enjoyed the darker tone, but not the swearing. To read some excerpts from this book, click here.

I listened to Sprinkle with Murder (Cupcake Bakery Mystery 1), written by Jenn McKinlay and narrated by Susan Boyce. This is another one that had some cursing sprinkled throughout the book, and for that reason, I probably won't continue the series. Other that that, it had a light, cozy vibe, similar to the Hannah Swensen series. Does anyone know if there are recipes in the print or e-book format? There aren't any in the audiobook.
IN PROGRESS
A Fatal Feast
(Murder, She Wrote 32), by Donald Bain and Jessica Fletcher, is the perfect read for Thanksgiving weekend, although it will carry into next week. I'm finding that this book series has the same vibe as the television series, which I love. I don't know how these books manage to capture the essence of Jessica Fletcher so well, but they really do. When Mrs. Fletcher speaks in these books, I can easily imagine Angela Lansbury. To read some excerpts, click here.
UP NEXT
My audiobook listen this week will be Twelve Slays of Christmas (Christmas Tree Farm Mystery 1), written by Jacqueline Frost and narrated by Allyson Ryan. There are several Christmas cozies I've had on my TBR for a while and this is one of them. I love the title and the cover of this book!
After I finish
A Fatal Feast, I'll read A Nutcracker Nightmare (Killer Chocolate Mystery 2), by Christina Romeril. I really enjoyed the first one in this series, so I'm looking forward to the second installment. I asked my library to purchase this one. They did and they reserved a copy for me to pick up, which I already did.
If I get my Kindle all set up this week, I'll start reading
Wedding Cake Murder (Hannah Swensen 19), by Joanne Fluke. It is on Kindle Unlimited. Since this series is so special to me, I want this book to be the first one I read on my first e-reader. I know generally what happens in Hannah's personal life in this book, so I'm prepared to laugh and roll my eyes. Lol.
ON TELEVISON
  • Hallmark romcoms - I finished all the autumn movies I wanted to watch and I started on the Christmas ones. I watched Autumn in the Vineyard. This is number one in a trilogy. The other two take place in the summer and winter. Unfortunately, I didn't end the autumn movies on a high note. This one was just okay. I've heard that the other two are better, so I look forward to watching those next year (or at least the second one, which is set in the summer). I also watched Holiday Hotline. Although the conflict in this movie was silly and completely unnecessary, I did, for the most part, enjoy the movie. It was the perfect transition into the holiday season because the first part of it takes place around Thanksgiving.
  • Friends - I'm in the middle of season 5 and right now Joey and Rachel know about Monica and Chandler's relationship...but they don't know that Rachel knows. Coincidentally, I watched the Thanksgiving episode the day before Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving episodes are some of my favorites, but the funniest one I watched so far in my re-watch is probably the one with Ross's leather pants. (I think it's actually called "The One with All the New Year's Resolutions", but Ross's leather pants is definitely the highlight of this episode.)

  4. Hooray for your new Kindle! I want a library in my house, but an e-library on an e-reader when I'm away from home is most convenient.

    1. Thank you, Shelley! I've been re-watching Friends for a few years. I think I'm on my 5th go-round. It seems even more people are doing that now, understandably so. :-)
